LOS ANGELS.–European Union [EU] officials have done everything possible to sabotage peace efforts launched by 78-year-old President Donald Trump and 72-year-old Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ukraine’s 47-year-old President Volodymyr Zelensky has done everything possible to upend Trump’s peace plans, saying he hasn’t been consulted in any peace plans. Zelensky knows that his national security team has been kept abreast of everything Trump was doing to bring about an acceptable peace deal with Putin. Zelensky thought he could undermine Trump by going behind his back at the EU. There’s plenty of jealousy of Trump in the EU, knowing the he has the clout with Putin to pull off a peace deal. EU officials have only made a bad situation worse with baseless accusations that Putin wants to take over more European countries. Where did they make this up?
Putin has said repeatedly he had a problem with Ukraine because the U.S. was arming Kiev to the teeth with offensive weapons to attack the Russian Federation. Biden was warned by Putin for months before the Feb. 24, 2022 invasion, asking him to talk about new security arrangements for Ukraine. Biden said the invasion was “unprovoked and unjustified,” ignoring Putin’s requests for months to discuss the growing problem. Zelensky acts like he did nothing wrong arming Ukraine. Once 82-year-old President Joe Biden took office Jan. 20, 2021, he started arming Ukraine with the expressed intent to driving Russian forces from the Crimean Peninsula. Putin seized Crimean March 1, 2014 during the Obama administration because of a CIA-backed coup that toppled the duly elected Kremlin-backed government of Viktor Yanukovych, threatening Putin’s Black Sea fleet.
Zelensky branded Ukraine as part of Europe when, in fact, it was never part of Europe but part of the Soviet Union and before that the Russian Federation. Biden insisted he backed Ukraine’s war with the Kremlin because it protected European democracy. Now the EU says it plans to spend another $800 billion on defense to contain what they call a “clear and present danger” presented by Putin to the European Continent. Putin has given no signs of wanting to take over any other European country yet that’s the exact talking points by Zelensky and Biden to justify the Ukraine War. “We see that the European Union is now actively discussing the militarization of the EU and the development of the defense segment. This is a process that we are watching closely, because the EU is positioning Russi as its main adversary,” said Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Putin has been watching carefully the rhetoric coming out of the EU, talking tough saying it wants to defend Ukraine from more war with the Kremlin. Putin knows that Trump refuses to fund the Ukraine War any longer, seeking to normalize U.S.-Russian relations after years of Biden’s warmongering. EU officials have mirrored Biden and Zelensky’s old talking points about Putin trying to take over Europe. Every interview by Putin, including the one with former Fox News journalist Tucker Carlson, says Putin does not seek any territory in Europe. Putin told Carlson he wants the U.S. to stop arming Ukraine to attack the Russian Federation. Hearing the EU beat the war drums doesn’t play well in Moscow, with Putin considering his next move in ending the Ukraine War. Kremlin officials aren’t too happy with Macron and von der Leyen’s baseless accusations.
EU officials need to be more realistic about helping Trump get a lasting peace deal in Ukraine. Accusing Putin of trying take over more EU countries certainly isn’t the right way to start negotiating a peace deal. Trump understands all about fake accusations, something Democrats have done to Trump for years. “This, of course, could potentially be a top of deep concern for us and there could be a need to take appropriate measures in response to ensure security,” Peskov said. Everyone knows about Zelensky and Biden’s accusations about Putin. But hearing them come from French President Emmanuel Macron and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is far more disturbing. It shows that the EU has swallowed Biden and Zelensky’s talking points to justify the Ukraine War. Putin shows no signs or interest in expanding territory in Europe.
Peskov and other Kremlin officials know that the EU doesn’t really matter in the scheme of things. What matters is that Trump wants normal diplomatic relations with the Kremlin, including resuming a cooperative partnership on global affairs. “And, of course, such confrontational rhetoric and confrontational think that we are now seeing in Brussels an in European capitals is seriously at odds with the mood for finding a peaceful settlement around Ukraine,” Peskov said. Peskov knows that Trump overtures with the Kremlin are far more important than anything coming out of Brussels. Once Trump makes peace with Russia, Peskov knows that the EU will tone things down. With Trump ready to resume peace talks in Riyadh, the Kremlin knows it has a global partner in Trump. Political posturing in Brussels means very little in the scheme of things.
