Speaking in his green army gear to a joint session of Congress Dec. 21, 44-year-old Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky performed a great con job on Democrats and Republicans. Zelensky’s claptrap told the American public that over $40 billion in government and military aid to Ukraine was not “charity” but an investment in promoting freedom in Europre. Zelensky runs a bankrupt Kiev government, paying civil servants with U.S. tax dollars, all because he’s defending freedom for the world against tyrants like 70-year-old President Vladimir Putin. Zelensky begged for “fast-track” membership to NATO only to be rebuffed by NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, wanting no part of joining his war against the Russian Federation. President Joe Biden, 80, naively fell into Zelensky’s trap, funding a deadly proxy war against the Russian Federation, destroying U.S. relations with Moscow.

Anyone listening beyond the emotional appeal knows that Kiev is bankrupt, unable to pay its bills without U.S. largess. Zelensky knows that NATO, not Ukraine, is responsible for repelling any attack on freedom in Europe. Yet the 44-year-old former comedian/actor asks Congress to believe that Ukraine defends, with U.S. cash, the world from a fascist takeover by Putin. What utter nonsense all to convince Congress to back the White House requests for billions of military aid to battle the Russian Federation. Biden made an unforgivable blunder to join Zelensky’s fight against the Kremlin. Whatever border dispute Ukraine has with Moscow, it wasn’t the U.S. responsibility to join Zelensky’s war with the Kremlin. Very smart and experienced diplomats have asked the Biden and Zelensky allow U.N. peacemakers to end the conflict with an immediate ceasefire and start peace talks.

Zelensky rejects any peace talks because his government can’t function without U.S. cash to pay his, his inner circle and ordinary Kiev government employees. Zelensky has no incentive to end the flow of billions of dollars to the Kiev government. Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, 99, said recently that only a diplomatic solution can end the war, with both sides needing to make concessions. “A just peace is no compromises as to the sovereignty, freedom and territorial integrity of my country, the payback for all the damages inflicted by Russian aggression,” Zelensky said in his speech. Can you imagine, Zelensky won’t compromise, even if it means fighting a war at U.S. expense in perpetuity? How can Congress listen to his con job without questioning what’s the exit strategy. Biden keeps saying he doesn’t want WW III but continues to feed Zelensky’s war machine.

Zelensky’s speech told U.S. lawmakers that investing billions in Ukraine was a way to protect Europe from falling into tyranny. Zelensky knows that’s the role of NATO, not a bankrupt, war-ravaged country like Ukraine, unable to manage its own borders with the Russian Federation. Rejected for fast-track membership in NATO, Zelensky insists that U.S. cash assures freedom on the European Continent. Even paraphrasing Zelensky’s claptrap makes you think about his audacity trying to sell a joint session of Congress such utter rubbish. “Your money is not charity. It’s an investment in the global security and democracy that we handle in the most responsible way,” Zelensky told lawmakers. Imagine that, the U.S. doesn’t need NATO only Zelensky to hold the line against Putin. Lawmakers in Congress are so swept up in the hype they draped themselves in Ukrainian flags.

Zelensky runs a bankrupt country currently in a war of attrition with the Russian Federaiton. Biden has made the U.S. party to the war against the Kremlin by supplying Zelensky unlimited cash-and-arms to fight a blood proxy war, only destroying more of Ukraine’s infrastructure, leading no where, other than more carnage and infrastructure destruction. Zelensky refuses to entertain any respectable peace plan unless he gets all his demands met, including removal of all Russian troops from Ukraine and reparations for all the damages done since the Feb. 24 invasion. Putin has rejected Zelensky’s conditions, knowing that both sides would need to maker compromises to end the Ukraine War. When Zelensky talks of a just peace, he refers to only Putin making the compromises need to end the war. So far, Congress has gone along with Biden’s destructive Russian foreign policy.

Biden made a grave mistake backing Zelensky’s war with the Russian Federation, drawing the U.S. into a bloody proxy war with no end in sight. With Kiev bankrupt, Zelensky can only ask for more unending demands for U.S. cash-and-weapons, the latest being Patriot Missiles, to keep the destructive war going. Zelensky won’t stomp his feet and get his way with the Kremlin, demanding Russia leave every inch of Ukrainian territory. Only a peace process on neutral ground with smart and experienced peacemakers can work out the details of a ceasefire and lasting peace. Biden and Congress need to rethink the current untenable war with the Kremlin that’s destroyed U.S.-Russian relations after decades of cooperation. Letting Zelensky dictate U.S. foreign policy has been a costly mistake for U.S. national security, now at the most dangerous place since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
