Slamming 74-year-old President Donald Trump for taking stand against the World Health Organization [WHO], former Obama administration National Security Council member Gayle Smith said it was “tragic” that the United States was no longer backing the U.N.’s global health organization. Trump’s beef with the WHO stemmed from the corrupt and secretive way WHO’s 55-year-old Ethiopian Director-General Tedros Adhanom prevented the U.S. and world from knowing the truth about China’s coronavirus AKA SARS CoV-2 or Covid-19 global pandemic. Smith talks glowingly of how the WHO helped her deal with the EBOLA epidemic in Africa while working in 2014 as a development specialist for the National Security Council. But WHO didn’t create catastrophic damage to the U.S. in 2014 like it did in 2020 with the Covid-19 global pandemic.
Trump called WHO “China centric” after learning that Tedros misrepresented to the world the dangers of the deadly coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China in Nov. or Dec. 2019. When bodies were piling up on Wuhan streets in Dec. 2019 and Jan. 2020, Tedros told the world at a Jan. 14 press conference in Geneva that there was no “human-to-human transmission” in Wuhan. Suffering now from coronvirus himself, Trump has paid a worse price for WHO’s misrepresentations and lies to the U.S. and global community. Former Washington Post journalist turned-political-hack Bob Woodward blamed Trump for not conveying the severity of the Covid-19 crisis back in Jan. and Feb., when the U.S. had a handful of cases and no deaths. Woodward assumed for political purposes that Trump had a crystal ball that told him what would happen in the United States months down the road.
When Trump banned flights to-and-from China Jan. 31, Tedros spoke out at another Geneva press conference Feb. 5 saying that no country had a right to restrict the travel-and-commerce of another country, prompting Trump’s rival in the 2020 presidential race 77-year-old former Vice President Joe Biden to call Trump “xenophobic.” But what happened in the early stage of the Covid-19 crisis was that WHO didn’t get around to calling the coronavirus outbreak a global pandemic until March 11. Yet Woodward accuses Trump of gross negligence managing the Covid-19 crisis by not declaring his own national epidemic in Jan. and Feb. Woodward’s book “Rage,” became Democrats key talking points in the 2020 election. Smith called WHO “the heartbeat of a global response,” when it came to the EBOLA crisis. Smith won’t acknowledge that Tedros dropped the ball in the Covid-19 global pandemic.
When Trump suspended funding to WHO April 15, it had to do with Tedros stonewalling in his role to keep the U.S. world from knowing the deadly coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan. When Tedros declared Jan. 14 there was no “human-to-human” transmission in Wuhan, it was an egregious lie to cover the back of 67-year-old Chinese President Xi Jinping. Xi asked Tedros to keep the coronavirus outbreak secret for fear of hurting the China’s economy. Tedros’s primary obligation was not to protect Xi’s back but to protect as a U.N. health agency the world community. WHO failed to disclose in a timely manner the dangers of Wuhan’s coronaviurs outbreak, prompting Trump to ask WHO for accountability. When Tedros stonewalled, hid behind China and Russia, Trump decided to cut U.S. funding until such time that WHO found responsible leadership in the global pandemic.
Smith ripped Trump for pulling WHO’s funding, insisting that it’s better to fund WHO than to take a political stand. “It’s a bit like saying you don’t like the fire chief so you’re going to burn down the firehouse while your house is on fire,” Smith said while interviewed by Yahoo’s Andy Serwer Sept. 1. Posting the story today shows that the media’s playing politics before the Nov. 3 election. With Trump out of commission, anti-Trump forces are coming out of the woodwork, including CNN unable to refrain from its anti-Trump coverage, letting reporter Jeremy Diamond slam Trump for not wearing masks. Whether you wear a mask or not, anyone can get the virus if you’re around someone in a closed space, like Hope Hicks, who tested positive and showed symptoms of the virus. Reporting that Trump essentially deserved the virus shows how low American journalism has gone.
Blaming Trump for cutting WHO’s funding isn’t an attempt to limit the U.N.’s global health agency from doing its job. It’s pretty clear that Tedros showed gross negligence waiting two months before declaring a global pandemic March 11. “We need a plan globally so that we’ve go vaccine equity, which isn’t simply fairness,” Smith said, after criticizing Trump for his Operation Warp Speed to get a safe-and-effective vaccine at the earlinst possible time. Fearing it would boost Trump’s chances of reelections, Democrats like Smith dismissed Trump’s efforts to get a vaccine as only about politics. “That requires leadership and engaging the rest of the world in a way that I don’t think we’re seeing now,” Smith said, taking another shot a Trump. Smith and other anti-Trump partisans are exactly why organizations like WHO are controlled by China and do not have U.S. interests in mind.
