When Democrats and their media friends’ hue-and-cry were heard by 72-year-old President Donald Trump June 20 he stopped Immigration,Customs and Enforcement [ICE] from separating children from their illegal alien parents, Democrats were robbed of a key talking point heading into the Midterm elections. Democrats hope to ride Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation all the way to November, hoping to gain majorities in the House and Senate. But so far, aggregate polling does not confirm any “blue wave” heading into the Midterms, prompting Democrats to throw mud at Trump before the election. When children were separated from the their parents near the Brownsville, Texas border, Democrats had the perfect issue before Trump cancelled the separations policy. Now Democrats and the press are harping on a 2015 federal court ruling, permitting minors to be held for only 20 days.

Trump has few good options enforcing existing U.S. border laws, something he promised to do while campaigning in 2016. When Trump told his Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions to enforce U.S. border laws, he didn’t anticipate what to do with the thousands of children forced into detention when the parents were arrested, forced to plead their cases before federal judges. Now that Trump fixed the separation problem, Democrats still hound Trump about what to do with the children of illegal aliens forced into detention after 20 days. “These are protections for kids. That’s the doctrine here,” said Muzaffar Chrishti, director of the nonpartisan Migration Policy Institute’s office at New York University [NYU] law school. “And if anything goes against the protection of kids, it will be challenged,” said Chrishti. When you consider child endangerment, nothing’s worse than illegal immigrant parents.

Chishti argues that U.S. detention, with all its amenities, including education, medical care, psychological counseling, recreation, cable TV, etc., endangers children more than desperate parents dragging their children across the border illegally. When you consider the dangers illegal immigrant parents put their children through trying to cross the border, it’s preposterous, a Chrishti points out, to say detention is more dangerous than poor parental supervision. Of the 2,000 children separated from their parents, it’s impossible to say how many of them were dumped at the border by their parents. While not in the news today, illegal immigrants parents have said their children are better off going into U.S. Foster care than living in Mexico and other Central American Countries. Because of the Flores agreement and 2015 federal court order, children can be detained only 20 days.

When you consider Democrats and media criticism of Trump’s attempt to enforce U.S. immigration laws, it’s clear that they want to go back to days of “catch-and-release” or ignoring border laws altogether. No one in the Trump administrations wants to separate children from their families, but illegal immigrants taking the desperate act of crossing the border endangers their children. Trump’s new order to ICE has all illegal immigrants detained with their children not separated. Making matters worse, Democrats want the children released in 20 days, before their parents can meet before a judge. If children can’t stay in government detention centers, they’re likely to be placed in Foster care at some distant location. Proving all children’s necessities, including education media, counseling, recreation, etc., hardly seems like inhumane treatment as advertised by Democrats and the media.

Keeping children with their parents presents problems for past court rulings requiring children not held over 20 days. If parents haven’t had asylum or deportation hearings, it’s conceivable the government, according to press reports, would be forced to relocate children into Foster care. Trump’s problem at the border stemmed from enforcing existing immigration laws, intercepting law-breakers at the border. Separating children from their parents was a consequence of prosecuting aliens crossing the border illegally. Now that Trump rescinded the separation order, Democrats and press push to have the children removed from their detained parents after 20 days. Whatever legislation Congress would fashion in the future, it wouldn’t turn a blind eye to law-breakers crossing the border. Democrats don’t know what they’re asking for other than going back to ending border enforcement.

Exploiting the border problems in Texas for political purposes, Democrats hope they can throw as much mud on Trump before the Midterm elections. With a recent Gallup poll showing Trump’s approval ratings rising, Democrats have an uphill battle retaking Congress. When former President Obama lived through his first Midterm election, Democrats lost the House and Senate by big margins. With or without the nasty press campaign against Trump, aggregate polling shows Democrats having a real battle to take back Congress. When it comes to illegal immigration, most Americans don’t agree that ICE should look the other way at the border. Pushing to get the kids of illegal border crossers out of detention, Democrats could further separation by placing them into the Foster care system. No Congressional legislation in the future can simply ignore law-breakers at the border.
