Begging to have his command terminated, 49-year-old egomaniac Mayor Eric Garcetti stubbornly adheres to his twisted belief about what saves lives in Los Angeles in the age of coronavirus AKA SARS CoV-2 or Covid-19. Responding to a Justice Department letter saying Garcetti’s continuing “shelter in place” order “may be arbitrary and unlawful,” Garcetti doubled down, essentially telling the Trump administration he wouldn’t be guided by politics. But the only politics at stake is Garcetti’s known resistance to the Trump administration, one of former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s biggest supporters—and one of Trump worst critics. So, the one hiding behind “science” to play politics is Garcetti. There’s zero science or junk science behind Garcetti’s continued shutdown. With homeless and trash paving Los Angeles streets, Garcetti is a disgrace as mayor.

There are plenty of “science” experts that urge states, counties, cities and towns to open up. When you consider the collateral damage of shuttering businesses in Los Angeles, you’d think Garcetti would do everything possible end the “stay at home” order. Like the State of California, the City of Los Angeles has run out of money, collecting a fraction of the taxes needed to run city government. Yet Garcetti thinks he knows better than Stanford University, Hoover institution fellow, medical researcher Dr. Scott Atlas, M.D., who’s gone public for weeks saying that “shelter in place” orders create more disease and deaths, not, as Garcetti thinks, less. Los Angeles County Public Health Director, 60-year-old Dr. Barbara Ferrer, on whom Garcett relies on for coronavirus advice, holds no medical degree, has no training in infectious disease and boasts of a Ph.D. from Brandeis University in Social Welfare.

Ferrer told the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors May 12 that the County may not open until August. When there was a uproar that followed her remarks, she revised her opening date to July 4. Ferrer’s got no “science” and no common sense running the County Public Health Department. Now Garcetti says he won’t be bullied by the DOJ when he relies on “science,” the same feeble excuse given by 52-year-old Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom who’s run the state into the ground. Education, health care, homelessness, infrastructure and other essential state services are all in jeopardy because Newsom stubbornly kept the state shut down. Los Angeles would “never be completely open until we have a cure for the virus,” Garcetti said, drunk with power, begging for someone to challenge his authority. There’s no guarantee that any future vaccine or treatment would be a “cure” for SARS CoV-2.

Garcetti can’t fathom the idea that the virus won’t suddenly stop or go away anytime soon, prompting public health experts and elected officials to let people return to business with proper protections, unless they’re part of a vulnerable population, like elderly or people with serious underlying health conditions. No Garcetti’s pedigree graduating from Harvard-Westlake prep-school, Columbia University, studying at London School of Economics and Oxford has fed his oversized ego that somehow he knows best what do in an infectious disease crisis. Meanwhile he’s trashed the Los Angeles City Budget and done the unthinkable, put more people without outhouses on the streets. Garcetti’s inability to receive feedback that might disagree with his current approach to managing the coronavirus crisis impairs-and-paralyzes his decision-making, forcing him to dig in his heels.

Garcetti claims he’s protecting the health, safety and welfare of Los Angeles residents. But if he gets out of his limo and looks at the ubiquitous homeless encampments polluting the Los Angeles landscape he’d realize he’s not the solution but the problem. Garcetti’s stubborn adherence to one-size-fits-all “shelter in place,” the same message sent by his non-MD County Public Health Director, has driven the City into the ground. There’s nothing other than “junk science” that can possibly compel Garcetti to drive more Los Angeles residents into bankruptcy, poverty, homelessness, violence, suicide and more crime. Whatever problems Garcetti couldn’t deal with before the coronavirus crisis, things have gotten a lot worse because of his poor leadership, bad judgment and lack of common sense. How Garcetti thinks he’s going to get a Washington bailout for his colossal mismanagement is anyone’s guess.

Unable to take responsible feedback, Garcetti finds himself increasingly isolated in his abysmal decisions, turning Los Angeles into the nation’s biggest homeless population into an even bigger mess. Garcetti can talk his “science” nonsense all he wants but ultimately every Los Angeles resident suffers from his abysmal decision making. “We’re I think ranked 82nd in deaths per capita,” Garcetti said. We’ve seen a plateau . . .The seven day average is holding,” Garcetti said, citing useless data that’s utterly meaningless. No elected official can stop all the disease and deaths from an infections disease crisis. As Stanford’s Scott Atlas, M.D. says, the days for “shelter in place” have long since passed, only prolonging the infectious disease crisis. Instead of listening to his non-M.D. Public Health Director, Garcetti needs to follow solid national trends and open up Los Angeles now.
