Billionaire media mogul 77-year-old Michael Bloomberg found out the hard way what happens when you insult 73-year-old President Donald Trump. Calling the former New York Mayor “Mini Mike,” for Bloomberg’s 5 foot, 8 inch frame, Trump got Bloomberg’s goat, after Bloomberg’s televised ads have been calling Trump a lying scoundrel since changing parties and entering the race Nov. 24, 2019. Unlike other Democrat candidates, Bloomberge has his $58 billion media fortune to spend on political ads, taking Trump to task on almost everything. No one really knows what prompted Bloomberg to run for president, knowing he has zero chance of winning the Democrat Party nomination. Polling 8%, Bloomberg’s well behind 77-year-old front-runner former Vice President Joe Biden, 78-year-old Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and 70-yearold Sen. Elizabeth Warrant (D-Mass,).
Bloomberg’s baffled Demcocrat strategists, taking votes from Biden and Warren, whose campaigns have been sputtering in recent weeks against Sanders heading into the Feb. 3 Iowa Caucuses. While Biden and Sanders are running neck-and-neck, that’s not what Biden expected, when he tossed his hat into the ring April. 25. 2019. Because of sheer name-recognition serving eight years with former President Barack Obama, Biden enjoyed front-runner status up till now, when Iowans finally get to vote. Democrat National Committee [DNC] announced Feb. 1, that Bloomberg would be included in the next Democrat debate before the Feb. 22 Nevada primary. How that helps Bloomberg is anyone’s guess, other than giving him more national exposure. It’s clear that DNC officials are repeating the same effort of former DNC Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Waserman-Schultz (D-Fl.) to sabotage Bernie.
Bloomberg’s getting back what he deserves after spending millions in attack ads against Trump. “Mini Mike is part of the Fake News,” Trump tweeted. “They [the media] are working together in fact. Bloomberg isn’t covering himself [too boring to do], or other Dems. Only Trump. That sounds fair! It’s all the Fake News Media. And that’s why nobody believes in them anymore.” Trump tweeted. Bloomberg showed he has thin skin when it comes to Trump’s tweets. Trump criticized Bloomberg for paying his way into the Democrat debates, asking for a riser to look like he has more height. “The president is lying. He is a pathological liar who lies about everything, his fake hair, his obesity, and his spray-on tan,” Bloomberg was quoted as saying. With insults against Trump like that, what’s the president supposed to do, let Bloomberg’s attacks pass unnoticed without response?
Bloomberg’s candidacy makes zero sense for the Democrats Party unless he chooses to run as an independent to try to take Republican or independent votes away from Trump. As it stands now, Bloomberg causes chaos in the 2020 race, maybe taking votes away in the primaries from Biden or Warren. “Many of the ads you are watching were paid for by Mini Mike Bloomberg. He is going nowhere, just wasting his money,” Trump said. Clearly, Bloomberg has money to burn in his vendetta against Trump. No one can figure why he switched parties and now runs for president. Trump hit Bloomberg where it hurts, knowing that his 8% national polls doesn’t cut it in the Democrat primaries. Knowing he can’t win, Bloomberg’s in the race purely to run attack ads against Trump. Bloomberg’s hopes he can appeal to Republicans, cross over Democrats and independent voters to go against Trump.
After talking about Trump’s “fake hair,” “his obesity” and “his spray-on tan,” Bloomberg hit below-the-belt, not talking about policy differences with Trump. Some of Bloomberg’s ads talk about the differences in health care but trading insults was bound to backfire. “I stand twice as tall as he does on the stage, the stage that matters,” Bloomberg said, letting Trump get under his skin. Bloomberg’s reactions shows that he’s out-of-his-league, unable to stay focused on substantive campaign issues. Trump’s said today on Fox News that he differs with Bernie Sanders on everything but sees Bloomberg as wasting everyone’s time. Trump thinks Bloomberg has conspired with the DNC to sabotage Bernie for a second time in the last two presidential elections. “Mini Mike is now negotiating both to get on the Democrat primary debate state, and to have the right to stand on boxes . . .” Trump said.
Bloomberg’s presence running as a Democrat makes no sense to anyone running for president. Other than lashing out at Trump, how does Bloomberg help Democrats defeat Trump if he going to eventually lose the Democrat primaries to Biden, Sanders or Warren? Only if Bloomberg runs as an independent, can he do what billionaire Texas oilman H. Ross Perot did to former President George H.W. Bush in 1992: Hand the election to former President Bill Clinton. Bloomberg offers nothing of Perot’s appeal, running as a Democrat or independent. With Iowa voting tomorrow and New Hampshire Feb. 11, Bloomberg won’t stick around much longer. Overreacting to Trump’s tweets, Bloomberg showed he can’t keep his eyes on the ball, preferring to exchange insults with Trump. If Bloomberg wants to help defeat Trump, he’s better off dropping out ASAP.
