Staging a nationwide protest against President Donald Trump’s attacks on the press in the editorial pages of the nations local and national newspapers, the Boston Globe led the charge. Trump takes to Twitter to respond to various broadcast and print attacks on his presidency, calling the anti-Trump media “fake news” when they publish news from anonymous sources condemning his administration. Trump objects to the 24/7 broadcast and print coverage of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian meddling and alleged Trump collusion. Trump believes broadcast and print outlets have conspired with the Democratic Party to push an impeachment agenda, rarely reporting anything positive about the Trump administration, including the strong performance of the U.S. economy and stock market. By focusing only on negative news, Trump feels forced to respond on Twitter.
Trump’s called out the media for what he calls “fake news,” especially networks like CBS, ABC, NBC and subsidiary cable stations like CNN, MSNBC and CNBC, all report negative news about Trump. “There is nothing that I would want more for our country than true FREEDOM OF THE PRESS,” Trump tweeted. “The fact is that the press is FREE to write and say anything it wants, but much of what it says in FAKE NEWS, pushing political agenda or just plain trying to hurt people. HONESTY WINS!” Trump tweeted. With 300 newspapers condemning Trump’s views of the mainstream press, Trump felt inclined to explain his criticism. At no time in modern history has the media demonstrated such extreme prejudice against a presidential candidate and president. Harvard University’s Shorenstein Center for Politics and the Press found that over 90% of press coverage is negative against Trump
Most broadcast and print outlets endorsed former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton in the 2016 election. When the public spoke and ignored the press in 2016, they’ve been on a terror to destroy Trump in whatever way possible. “We have a president who has created a mantra that members of the med who do not blatantly support the policies of the current U.S. administration are the ‘enemy of the people,’” said the Boston Globe editorial. Continuing the phony narrative, the Boston Globe proves Trump’s critique about the media’s unfair bias against Trump. Trump doesn’t expect the media to support his policies, he wants the media to report the news fairly, including the rapid defeat of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria [ISIS] and stellar growth of the U.S. economy. Dwelling only on the Mueller probe, Trump wants the media to report the news fairly.
When the press talks about its mandate under the First Amendment, it’s not to advance the cause of one political part or special interest group. Yet the media’s unambiguous bias against Trump makes its First Amendment breach all the more egregious. You can’t uphold the First Amendment’s freedom of the press unless the press holds up its end of the bargain: To only seek the unvarnished truth, not advance a political agenda. Harvard’s study made it clear that the press holds extreme bias against Trump for the purpose of helping Democrats win the Midterm elections, taking back control of Congress. Reporting consistently negative stories has harmed Trump approval ratings, hoping to carryover to Republicans in the Midterm elections. With bad approval ratings from negative news stories, the anti-Trump press hopes to help Democrats take back Congress this November.
Reading the Boston Globe editorial tells the whole story of media bias against Trump. “We have a president who has created a mantra that members of the media who do not blatantly support the policies of the current U.S. administration are the ‘enemy of the people’” said the Globe. Globe editors know the utter falsehood of this statement. Trump doesn’t complain about the Globe publishing facts, he objects to the distortions that he must correct on Twitter. Trump isn’t concerned about the press that disagrees with his policies, he objects to the press reporting only negative news to hammer down his approval ratings, to help Democrats in the Midterm elections. Globe editors say the press is necessary to keep leaders in check yet can’t report accurately on Trump because Democrat politics have invaded the Globe’s newsroom. Globe says Trump has “murky” financial dealings without evidence or proof.
With criticism of Trump far-and-wide in the press, the New York Times insists that its reporters are only “human” and make “mistakes.” “News reporters and editors are human, and make mistakes,” said the Times. But all the negative reporting against Trump with anonymous sources aren’t “mistakes” but a deliberate, calculated attempta to create negative publicity for Trump. “Correcting them is core to our job. But insisting that truths you don’t like are ‘fake news’ is dangerous to the lifeblood of democracy. And calling journalists the ‘enemy of the people” is dangerous period,” insisted the Times. Times’ editors know that they don’t make “mistakes” when they report over 90% negative stories about Trump. Denying political bias against Trump only makes matters worse. Newspapers and broadcast outlets have a First Amendment duty to report the news, not advance Democrats’ political agenda.
