United States’ Ukraine war policy has taken a PR hit lately with 77-year-old Brazilian President Luiz Ignacio da Silva [LuLu] saying the U.S. has been “encouraging war” by supplying unlimited cash-and-arms to Ukraine. President Joe Biden, 80 and Ukraine’s 45-year-old President Volodymyr Zelensky insist that the war against the Kremlin protects democracy in Europe. Biden and Zelensky know that NATO, not Ukraine, defends democracy in Europe from any adversary, including the Russian Federation. Biden and Zelensky have tried to sell the European Union on the idea that the Ukraine War attempts to defend European democracy, not simply deal with Russia’s occupation of Ukraine’s sovereign territory. Biden and Zelensky have failed to get a consensus on dealing with the Russian Federation with the EU reluctantly going along with punitive economic sanctions.
EU officials, led by 64-year-old European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, must put the brakes on Biden, whose belligerent attitude toward 70-year-old Russian President Vladimir Putin could start WW III, possibly nuclear war. New York Times noted that the new age of arms control China looks to compete with the U.S. and Russia in terms of nuclear dominance. Going to war against Putin has been a disaster for nonproliferation, with Putin canceling the 1991 START treaty, aimed at limiting or reducing nuclear arsenals. Fighting a proxy war against the Kremlin has wrecked decades of détente aimed at making the world a safer place. Meeting with 69-year-old Chinese President Xi Jinping April 14, Lulu worked on peace plan, something already dismissed by Biden and Zelensky. Lulu joins 44-year-old French President Emmanuel Macron in calling for peace.
National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, 45, spoke on the phone with Lulu, hoping to mitigate any embarrassment to the White House. Lulu and Macron have been vocal critics of the U.S. proxy war against the Russian Federation in Ukraine, believing there’s a better way to resolve border conflicts than full-scale war. Lulu was more vociferous that Macron in saying that Biden was “encouraging war” by supplying Ukraine lethal arms. Sullivan and Lulu “discussed a number of bilateral and global issues, including Russia’s was against Ukraine” and “continued cooperation to combat climate change and protect the environment,” making the meeting look like routine diplomacy. Unlike normal diplomacy, Lulu put pressure on the White House to justify the ongoing proxy war using Ukrainian troops to fight the Kremlin. Lulu is a key member of the BRICS economic bloc, doing business with Moscow.
Biden hoped at the Feb. 24, 2022 start of the war to have international consensus on a Russian oil embargo and other sanctions designed to get Putin to pull out all his troops from Ukraine. But Biden forgot that Putin had troops in the Donbas region of southeastern Ukraine protecting the Russian-speaking oblasts of Donetsk and Luhnask. Biden’s proxy war against the Kremlin has pushed Russia into a close alliance with the Peoples Republic of China [PRC], looking to defend Russia and China’s geopolitical interests. Meeting with Putin in Moscow and Xi in Beijing, Lulu wants to put together a nonaligned nations to media the Ukraine dispute, taking it out of the U.S. and Kiev’s hands to resolve the conflict. Putin has expressed interest in ending the conflict as long as it recognizes Russian interests. Biden and Zelensky have refused to entertain peace talks without meeting certain conditions.
Lulu spoke to the press after his meeting with Xi, saying he sought a new geopolitical order to help resolve future disputes without war. “We have political interests and we have interests in building a new geopolitics so that we can change world governance by giving more representation to the United Nations,” Lulu said, hinting that he doesn’t accept U.S. bullying on the global order. Lulu’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira complained in Brazil that the Ukraine War affected the global economic community adversely, with nations not involved in the war taking a serious economic toll Mauro spoke at a meeting with 72-year-old Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Lavrov has been working on a peace plan for months, only to find the U.S. and Kiev reject peace overtures unless they meet Zelensky’s conditions. Meanwhile, the war wreaks more havoc on Ukraine.
Biden and 60-year-old Secretary of State Antony Blinken have ignored Lulu’s public remarks. Biden and Zelensky see Lulu as controlled by the China and Russia, discounting his efforts to bring about a mutually beneficial peace. Lulu’s predecessor, conservative former President Jair Bolsonaro also refused to take sides in the Ukraine War, encouraging both sides to end the conflict. Biden and Zelensky can’t continue the war indefinitely, somehow thinking that they’ll have a better bargaining position when the conflict finally moves to the peace table. No one thinks that Biden and Zelensky will attain their stated goal of defeating the Russian Federation. Lulu’s refusal to join Biden’s economic sanctions put him at odds with the White House. Biden miscalculated that China, India, Brazil and other countries have longstanding relations with the Russian Federation, not something to end anytime soon.
