Russia’s War with Ukraine rages after two weeks creating the worst refugee crisis since WW II. All the empty talk about ceasefire seems all for Wall Street to use to rally stocks because President Joe Biden, 79, and 44-year-old Ukrainian President show no signs of blinking with 69-year-old Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin will continue to pound Ukrainian cities until Biden and Zelensky come to their senses and start serious ceasefire talks. Putin laid out his conditions for a ceasefire, including recognizing independence of the Peoples’ Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk, and Ukraine declaring that the Crimean Peninsula is Russian territory. All three areas are firmly in Putin’s hands yet Biden and Zelensky refuse to talk or negotiate with Putin. Biden wasted three months refusing Putin’s requests to renegotiate security arrangements with Ukraine and Eastern Europe.
Over 1.5 million of the 2.5 million refugees streamed across the Polish border seeking protection from the war-ravaged country. Warsaw’s Mayor RafalTrzaskowski said some 250,000 Ukrainian refugees have stretched the city’s resources to the breaking point. Trzaskowski wants the international community, especially the U.N., to pony up money to offset the exorbitant burden of accommodates hordes of refugees. Whether Biden or Zelensky think they can outlast Putin or not, the war has created disastrous consequence for Ukraine’s neighbors with Ukraine’s citizens seeking to flee the war zone. “We are dealing with the great migration crisis in the history of Europe since WW II , , , The situation is getting more and more difficult every day,” said Trzaskoski, adding, “that the greatest challenge is ahead of us,” meaning there’s no end to the war in sight.
When you consider the trauma of dislocation and hardship on the local communities, the toll taken is not just on refugees but on local inhabitants trying to accommodate the situation. Biden and Zelensky want to blame Putin, announcing even more sanctions on the Russian Federation. Whether admitted to or not, the Ukraine War looks run through the White House, not from Kiev. Daily reports of how many more sanctions Biden has devised to punish the Russian Federation give a free X-Ray into how the war is run through the White House, not from Zelensky’s leadership council. Why Biden and Zelensky are not working feverishly to end the conflict killing so many civilians is anyone’s guess. Putin went to war because he thought the U.S. indiscriminately supplies Ukraine lethal weapons threatening Russian national security. Biden often repeats that the war was “unprovoked and unjustified.”
Putin certainly thought he was provoked by Biden and Zelnesky, both ignored Putin’s warnings, for three months ,that the U.S. and NATO could not continue to arm Ukraine without consequences. Putin warned Biden Dec. 24, 2021 that if he didn’t engage in serious security talks he would be forced to take “military-tchnical measures,” meaning he would demilitarize Ukraine. When Putin invaded Feb. 24, the White House was shocked, even though they were told what would happen. While that’s all water under the bridge, Biden has not taken ceasefire talks seriously. When it comes to the refugee crisis, Biden and Zelensky have opted to play out the war, letting the immigration crisis continue to rise. Instead of working on an urgent ceasefire, Biden continues to slap Putin with more sanctions, including revoking more favor-nation trade status.
Hitting Putin with more sanctions is bound to make ceasefire talks more complicated.
Flooding Europe with refugees happened in 2015 when former President Barack Obama continued his proxy war in Syria, where some 14 million refugees were forced to flee Syria to neighboring countries and Europe. Things got so bad in Europe that countries like Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic put up barbed wire to keep refugees out. When in comes to Poland now opening the door to Ukraine refugees it’s been a different story, taking in 320,000 refuges into Warsaw. Obama spent eight years backing the Syrian proxy war to topple Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. When Putin intervened Sept. 30, 2015, it was the beginning of the end for the Syrian War. Western governments are proud of the unified response to sanction Putin, thinking that he’ll eventually throw in the towel. Biden thinks continuing the Ukraine War can topple Putin’s government.
Since the war started Feb. 24, there’s been no real discussion about a ceasefire. When it comes to the Western press, they blame Putin for not taking ceasefire talks seriously. But Putin put out clear conditions to end the fighting immediately. Biden and Zelensky choose to make no concession to Putin, leaving the war raging, generating more civilian deaths and refugees daily. All that matters now is that a ceasefire and peace talks happen at the earliest possible time minimize the damage from unnecessary destruction and carnage. If Biden and Zelensky are so concerned with the refugee crisis, there’s a way to end it. More sanctions and more public denunciations of Putin are not the way to end the war. Biden and Zelensky need to come to table with a third-party mediator to stop the conflict. Zelensky, not Biden, should be free to negotiate with Putin to end the war.
