Hyped into a frenzy with U.S. Atty. Cyrus Vance Jr. in the Southern District of Manhattan filing charges for petty tax evasion against 73-year-old former President Donald Trump’s longtime CFO Allen Weisselberg on 15 counts of grand larceny, criminal tax fraud and falsifying business records, the left wing media couldn’t contain their glee. Citing former Trump’s personal attorney-now-convicted felon Michael Cohen, the left wing press has all but imploded, could care less about ethical journalism, whipping up one sensational story after another. No one digs up the unethical dirt better than the HuffPost, once owned by 70-year-old writer/businesswoman Ariana Stassinmpoulos Huffington. Named after her ex-husband Michael Huffington, who came out-of-the-closet and destroyed his political career after running to U.S. Senate in California. Now owned by BuzzFeed, the HuffPost has zero credibility.
To the left wing press, Weisselberg’s indictment gets closer to Trump, even though the charges against Weisselberg about $1.7 million in unreported fringe benefits over a 15-year period or about $113,333 in unreported fringe benefits are small potatoes, something left to the IRS, not the U.S. Atty. in Lower Manhattan. But with Vance retiring by year’s end, he tried to show his worth, catching the Trump Organization in a petty crime. Can you imagine if Vance actually went after some of Wall Street’s biggest hedge or private equity funds or big banks, what he would find? But when HuffPost relies on CNN for its sources citing convicted felons like Michael Cohen all bets are off. Cohen could sell ice to Eskimos, let alone serve as any source of an ethical news story. Cohen, who spent 14-months of a 36-month sentence in prison, before released July 24, 2020 due to a Covid-19 early release program.
Cohens’s been a cooperating witness with the U.S. Attorney’s office but has zero credibility since pleading guilty to income tax evasion, tax fraud, and several other felonies. Used by the liberal press to attack Trump, Cohen’s vendetta against Trump knows now limits but Cohen himself did not receive a three-year prison sentence because of Trump. No one in the media reports that the bulk of Cohen’s sentence stemmed from tax fraud and income tax evasion, not anything he did for Trump. Cohen told CNN’s Allisyn Camerota July 1 that the U.S. Atty. Cyrus Vance Jr. has all the documents needed to indict Trump on far worse charges than Weisselberg. Vance hopes to get Weisselberg, like Cohen, to sing like a canary. So far, Weisselberg, has shown no interest in cooperation in Vance’s probe aimed at getting Trump. “Everything went through Donald,” Cohen said.
CNN thinks nothing of quoting a dirty, rotten scoundrel like Cohen, for inside dirt on the Trump organization. But Cohen actually has little to tell other that about his own self-aggrandizement, getting his sound-bites of fame in the left wing press. “Every single thing, where it was the acquisition of paperclips, light bulbs, furniture, mattresses, you name it, Allen Weisselberg’s kinds’ payments, rent, everything would have a Donald Trump signature on it or his initial,” Cohen said, pretending to know far more about Trump than he actually does. But for CNN or the HuffPost, Cohen gives them everything they wants to hear that the next indictment will be Trump. CNN’s Camerota asked Cohen what’s different now than before. “Why do you think this time is going to be any different,” Camerota asked Cohen. “Well, you know the expression, the cat has nine lives,” Cohen responded.
If Vance’s documentary evidence on Trump is similar to what he has on Weisselberg, Trump has nothing to worry about. Vance went over the top charging Wesisselberg for the petty expenditures that could have been resolved easily with the IRS. When it comes to Trump’s alleged manipulations of property values for either taking losses or lowering insurance premiums, that’s all usually-and-customary practice in the real estate business. Watching the U.S. Attorney’s Office weaponized for political purposes shows the kind of abuse that gone one during the Trump years. Vance is right in line with 60-year-old former FBI Director James Comey who launched an illegal counterintelligence investigation against Trump without any probable cause other than using former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s fake Steele dossier that said Trump was a Russian agent.
What the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York has done is shameful abuse of the Department of Justice. When former President Barack Obama gave the green light to investigate Trump in the 2020 campaign, the government set a dangerous precedent to circumvent U.S. laws and the Constitution for political purposes. Going after the Trump Organization or Trump after his presidency is an unprecedented abuse of government power, needing Congressional oversight. But with Democrats controlling the government, the fox is guarding the hen house, leaving the criminal justice system in shambles. To Democrats and the press, it didn’t matter that Trump was acquitted by 76-year-old Special Counsel Robert Mueller March 23, 2019. Just like now, there are no checks-and-balances when it comes to the U.S. government persecuting elected officials or ordinary U.S. citizens.
