Tipping their hands before the scheduled Feb. 8 impeachment trial of 74-year-old President Donald Trump, the liberal press can’t contain their zeal presenting Democrats’ case against Trump to the public. Floating one trial balloon after another, the press urges that 33-year-old failed actor, QAnon Shaman Jacob Chansley AKA Jake Angeli be Democrats’ star witness at the Feb. 8 trial. Chansley, who’s jailed in Washington, D.C., awaiting his own prosecution turned quickly against Trump when he refused to pardon or commute sentences of Jan. 6 Capitol lawbreakers, who, after listening to Trump last speech, stormed the Capitol and vandalized government property. Chansley was the most conspicuous of all outlaws in full red-white-and-blue face paint, horned bearskin hat and adorned with a spear with the American flag. Like other Capitol rioters, Chansley came armed with his cell phone for selfies.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 80, charged Trump with “incitement of insurrection,” blaming the president for orchestrating the “insurrection” where Chansley and other lawbreaking misanthropes tried to overthrow the U.S. government. Pelosi went for the gusto with her charges against Trump, accusing him of an attempted coup d’etat. Anyone watching Chansley or other Capitol invaders note that they were armed only with cell phones, not automatic weapons, improvised explosive devices [IEDs] or rocket propelled grenades [RPGs]. Former 65-year-old Defense Secretary and Centcom Commander James Mattis accused Trump of provoking an insurrection, something he knows a lot about since he followed 59-year-old former President Barack Obama and 78-year-old Vice President [now President] Joe Biden’s orders to supply arms and cash to Syrian rebels to topple Syrian President Bashar-al-Assad.
So, no one knows better that Mattis what kind of arms are supplied to insurgents seeking to topple a sovereign government. Ten House managers led by Rep. Jamie Raiskin (D-Md.) have to prove that Trunp’s guilty of “incitement of insurrection,” now using QAnon “Shaman,” Jacob Chansley as their star witness. Chansley threw a fit in D.C.’s jail, demanding he be given organic food or threatening a hunger strike. Chansley’s attorney Al Watkins said Chansley felt betrayed by Trump, offering his client as a witness against the president. “Whether the words of former President Trump were understood by Mr. Chansley to be nothing short of an invitation to go to the Capitol with the president to fight like hell,” Watkins told the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Watkins claims his client was “horrendously smitten” with Trump, took his words literally to storm the Capitol and vandalize government property.
Using Chansley as Democrats star witness would tell GOP Senators everything they need to know about Democrats’ case. Chansley is clearly an unhinged misanthrope, joining in on all the fun with a good old fashion riot. Watkins told the Post Dispatch that his client believed he was following Trump’s orders when he broke into the Capitol and defaced public property. “I cannot think of a better way to turn the upcoming impeachment trial into a complete circus than to call the QAnon Shaman as a witness on anything,” Graham said. But if Graham wants Democrats to bomb quickly with their impeachment case, calling mentally challenged witnesses makes Republicans’ case that Democrats have no case against Trump. “If the pending Article of Impeachment has merit, the voice of Mr. Chansley and the voice of others in like position, must be heard and believed,” Watkins said.
Watkins can’t be serious that Chansley has any credibility with anyone other than the most partisan Democrats on the impeachment committee. “Let’s roll the tape,” Watkins said, letting everyone hear Trump’s speech. Trump told his audience to protest peacefully, not storm the Capitol or deface government property. “Lets roll the months of lies and misrepresentations and the horrific innuendo and hyperbolic speech by our president designed to inflame, enrage, motivate,” Watkins said. So, Watkins defense is that his client had no brain, misinterpreted Trump’s words to attack the Capitol. “What’s really curious is the reality that our president, as a matter of public record, invited these individuals, as president, to walk down to the Capitol with him,” Watkins said. Watkins admitted that Chansley and others were invited to walk to the Capitol, not break-and-enter and vandalize government property.
If the GOP wants Democrats to make fools of themselves, follow Watkin’s advice and let the QAnon Shaman testify against Trump because he didn’t get a presidential pardon. Chansley would expose for all to see the misfits and losers that find any excuses to commit crimes, no different from the left-wing agitators that rioted, looted, torched, seized property and anarchy for four months last summer. Misanthropes on both sides of the political spectrum have much in common, looking for any excuse to commit violence. When you look at the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, it was not an organized insurrection, rebellion, revolt or coup d’etat but a garden-variety riot and mob scene. If there’s anyone to blame for the mayhem, the Capitol and D.C. police would be a good start for such poor security. But where was the FBI, who warned of possible riots, notifying the National Guard to set an effective cordon around the Capitol?
