Democrats and the media have their new post-election obsession, getting rid of 74-year-old President Donald Trump by whatever means works. After the Jan. 6 mob scene at the Capitol, Democrats and the media blame Trump for the melee, going one step further calling the Capitol invasion by a group of misfits an ‘insurrection.” House Democrats led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) crafted new articles of impeachment charging Trump with “incitement of insurrection.” Last time anyone checked the definition of “insurrection” it involves heavily armed groups funded by outside sources with the intent of overthrowing a sovereign government. Whatever losers stormed the Capitol Jan. 6, they had no intent or resources to do anything than make some publicity. Democrats and media’s attempt to define the Capitol riot as “insurrection” is preposterous.
House Democrats are busy for the second time concocting articles of impeachment against Trump. When he spoke to a massive crowd estimated at 1 million in the morning of Jan. 6 before a joint session of Congress was due to certify the Electoral college vote confirming 78-year-old President-elect Joe Biden’s victory,
Trump mentioned nothing about storming the Capitol. Trump complained to the crowd about Democrats robbing him of the 2020 election, not saying one thing about breaking-and-entering the Capitol or defacing government property. When you consider that about 1,000 troublemakers entered or milled around the Capitol, it was only one-tenth-of-one-percent of the crowd, proving that bad apples exist in most peaceful protesters. Democrats and the media extrapolated that Trump ordered and organized the Jan. 6 malicious mischief.
Democrats went back to the impeachment well thinking that “inciting an insurrection” was the high-crime-and-misdemeanor needed to get rid of Trump before his term ends Jan. 20. When Republicans beat back a Jan. 11 Democrat resolution to remove Trump from office under the 25th Amendment, Democrats then brainstormed about the post-Civil War 14th Amendment, giving post-slavery U.S. citizens due process in the courts. Under the 14th Amendment, no elected official shall engage in insurrection or rebellion against the United States. “If we allow insurrection against the United States wit impunity, with no accountability, we are inviting it to happen again,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) told ABC News host George Stephanaopoulos. Democrats think they can magically call the riot or mob scene and “insurrection” or “rebellion,” enabling lawmakers to evict Trump from office.
When you consider that Trump only has eight days left in office, it makes no sense that House Democrats are consumed with getting rid of Trump. Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo) wants to use the 14th Amendment to expel other members of Congress, including Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tx.) for opposing the Elector College results to confirm Biden as president. Democrats hoped they could force a square peg into a round hole, defining the Jan. 6 Capitol mob scene as a “insurrection” or “rebellion” to fit the 14th Amendment. House Democrats don’t want to talk about the riots, looting, arson and anarchy over the 2020 summer in which literally blocks of major cities were occupied by militant protesters. Nobody called Marxists in Portland or Seattle “insurgents” or fomenting rebellion against the United States. Only now, Democrats accuse Trump of insurrection.
Challenging the results of the 2020 presidential election was not an act of rebellions or insurrection but a legitimate attempt to ascertain whether or not universal mail-in ballots impacted the results. Concerns about the Nov. 3 election questioned why state election officials changed voting rules to accommodate the 2020 election. Democrats have made a big deal with Trump calling Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to ask if he could find 11,780 votes. Democrats insist that Trump was trying to strong-arm Raffensperger to fabrication votes. Trump clearly wanted to know if Democrats if Georgia election officials removed 11,780 votes from legitimate vote count. Using the 14th Amendment, Democrats would like to get rid of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) who opposed the Electoral College vote certification to save Trump’s reelection.
Whatever happened Jan. 6 at the Capitol, it was not an “insurrection” or “rebellion” fitting into the 14th Amendment. When it comes to the 25th Amendment, it’s outrageous to think that Trump can be defined as “incapacitated” or “gravely disabled” to carry out his oath of office. Pelosi preached to the choir on CBS “60 Minutes” to host Lesline Stahl, both giddy over the prospects of tossing Trump from office. But before the House Speaker goes too far, she should look at her extreme prejudice against Trump, calling him a clear-and-present danger to U.S. national security. Whoever rebelled on Jan. 6, it certainly wasn’t with Trump’s blessing, who never ordered or expected any of the crowd to storm the Capitol, deface public property or commit crimes. There’s no doubt that a fraction of Trump’s backers made a mess in the Capitol. None were involved in an “insurrection:” or “rebellion.”
