Fracturing his right foot while playing with his dog Saturday, 78-year-old Joe Biden exposed his frailty physically, something that doesn’t happen to a younger person. Unlike former Secretary of State John Kerry who broke his leg in a cycling accident May 31, 2015 at age 71, Biden was playing with his dog, not exactly a high-risk activity. Whether admitted to or not, fracturing bones in the foot at Biden’s age shows that osteoporosis probably played a part in what would have been an ordinary trip or twist of his foot. Biden’s handlers during public appearances typically have Biden jogging up to podiums, much like his predecessor 58-year-pld President Barack Obama. Biden’s campaign liked to show him jogging with Secret Service Agents, showing that the 78-year-old shows no signs of aging, something far from the truth. Biden was questioned during the campaigned about his cognitive functioning.
By far more serious than osteoporosis or balance problems, cognitive decline, especially for a president is the last thing you’d like to see in a President-elect. While covered up in Democrat circles during the campaign, Biden’s made a series of gaffes going well beyond his past stuttering issues, suggesting that he’s not completely cognitively intact. Getting through a couple of national debates with 74-year-old President Donald Trump, Biden’s team breathed a sigh of relief that he made it trough the two debates without a major mishap. But, apart from no obvious mistakes, Biden often has difficulty explaining himself pulling out basic facts to help explain various questions. Reporters found out the hard way during the campaign that you can’t challenge Biden, without getting a surly response. Biden’s combative responses are more related to in inability to explain himself.
Today’s announcement of Biden’s foot injury was also insulated from reporters and the public, fearing that the explanation given wouldn’t add up. Biden’s handlers dodn’t want reporter to question his fitness for duty as president, something that was off-limits during the campaign. “Initial ex-rays did not show any obvious fracture, but medical staff ordered a more detailed CT scan,” his doctor, Kevin O’Connor said in a prepared statement. O’Connor doesn’t want to start answering questions regarding the nature of the jury, how it actually happened or, more importantly, would this have happened to a younger man. “The subsequent scan found tiny fractures o two small bones in the middle of his right foot,” O’Connoer said. While dismissed as minor Biden could be seen limping by reporters watching him go from O’Connor’s office to the imaging center for a CT scan.
Biden’s Democrat-friendly press dismissed the injury as minor, despite the President-elect having difficulty limping without assistance. “It is anticipated that he will likely require a walking boot for several weeks,” Connor said, admitting that the injury was serious enough to impair Joe’s ambulation, but, more importantly, his recovery requires his foot to be stationary in a boot. Fracturing bones in his foot over a fairly harmless incident playing with his dog, raise more concerns about the fragility to elected someone Biden’s age. For Democrats and a majority of independents, electing Biden over Trump was a no-brainer, especially with all the cognitive gaffes that occurred during the campaign. Almost nowhere in the Democrat-friendly press did they report on Biden’s gaffes, at times forgetting what he was running for, or, more often, forgetting the city in which he was speaking.
Bone fractures are minor compared to cognitive impairments that would make handling the presidency all the more complicated for the 78-year-old Presdient-elect. Biden will be the oldest president in U.S. history sworn in Jan. 20, 2021. Trump was 71-years-od age, who was over one year older that President Ronald Reagan when he took the oath of office at 69-year-old Jan. 20, 1981. With an age difference of four years between Trump and Biden, Biden seemed far older, because the public never really saw him speak extemporaneously without teleprompters and tightly controlled media interactions. Trump went so far as accusing Biden of taking cognitive-enhancing drugs, like adderall, for his two debates, demanding Joe take a drug test. Well that never happened but the public was left with questions regarding Biden’s cognitively functioning all through the 2020 campaign.
Biden’s foot fracture sends exactly the wrong signal to foreign leaders, especially adversaries like China’s Xi Jinping, Russia’s Vladimir Putin, North Korea’s Kim Jon-un and Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khaemenei. All are already familiar with the reporting on Biden’s cognitive functioning, now comes the foot fracture, attesting to Joe’s advanced age. Watching Biden limp from his doctor’s office heading to the imaging center was a bad optic for the public. Most dog owners know the statistical probability of breaking a foot playing with your dog. While the press gave Biden a pass on his cognitive miscues during the campaign, it’s going to be harder to ignore what looks like age-related frailty. Biden’s medical reports list him as “healthy, vigorous,” despite taking a statin drug to reduce high cholesterol. Biden’s past brain aneurisms, atrial fibrillation and high cholesterol raise doubts.
