Impeaching 74-year-old President Donald Trump Jan. 13 for spurious reasons, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) took out all her wrath the man who frequently called her “crazing Nancy.” Well “crazy Nancy” got the last laugh so far, unleashing the anti-Trump demons in the Democrat-controlled House, essentially weaponizing her Article 1 power, the unconstitutional use of impeachment. Impeachment was intended by the Founding Fathers to rid the fledgling democracy of a tyrant, criminal or both. Llike everything else under the rule of law, lawmakers, like Pelosi, aren’t allowed to invent their own laws or make up definitions for ramming a square peg into a round hole. Pelosi did just that when she charged Trump with “incitement of insurrection,” something that turns insurrection on its head. Rioters that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 weren’t seeking to overthrow the U.S. government.

Pelosi carefully crafted the article with the intent to diverting public attention away from the reality of the day, no matter how horrific. Trump’s wayward, ballistic followers committed crimes breaking-and-entering the Capitol, not on Trump’s command or even some disguised code but because they broke the law on their own. Pelosi convinced her House caucus, which didn’t take much convincing, that Trump led the charge to storm the Capitol Jan. 6 and deface government property. But any cursory look at the record, including the video of Trump’s Jan. 6 speech, shows that he instructed the crowd to protest peacefully, not break any laws, certainly not storm the Capitol. So Pelsoi and her hoard of Trump haters didn’t care that the facts matched the evidence of what happened Jan. 6. What happened was a group of hoodlums that broke the law without Trump’s approval or consent.

Heading into the Jan. 20 inauguration, federal officials are concerned about more violence sweeping the Capitol or other cities around the country. While there’s no real evidence that anything will happen, the Capitol and D.C. police don’t want to repeat the debacle on Jan. 6, calling in 25,000 National Guard troops from several states to set an impenetrable cordon around the Capitol. Federal law enforcement officials led by the FBI were blindsided Jan. 6 and don’t plan of making the same mistake twice. Regardless of what happens Jan. 20, Trump will no longer be president, making you wonder Pelosi’s real motives impeaching the president was not to follow her Article 1 power but to prevent Trump from ever running for president again. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) admitted Jan. 13 that reason for convicting Trump was to prevent him from running again.

So, not only are the grounds for impeachment bogus, namely, that Trump committed “incitement of insurrection,” the Democrat motive is really about preventing him from ever running for president again. Pelosi eviscerated the Constitution just like she did when she tore up Feb. 5, 2020 Trump’s State of the Union speech in public view. If Trump’s attorneys challenge the impeachment or potential conviction, it would not stand any test in the Supreme Court. Neither the article to impeach nor the desire to prevent Trump from running for office are legitimate grounds for impeachment. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Jan. 15 that if the Senate convicts Trump sometime after Biden’s nomination, it would destroy the Republican Party. Paul thinks that one-third of the GOP would leave the Party. Media has reported that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is open to convicting Trump.

Closer look at McConnells words indicate that he’s open to holding a trial with the purpose of hearing the evidence to convict or acquit. Democrats and the press can’t contain their glee at the prospects of finishing Trump off, something they couldn’t do Feb. 5, 2020 when the Senate acquitted Trump along party lines. But this time around, a few Republicans have bought into Democrat propaganda that Trump committed “incitement of insurrection.” Watching the misanthropes, misfits and losers at the Capitol Jan. 6, it’s clear that it was not an “insurrection” but an all-to-familiar riot. Even FBI Director Christopher Wray, no fan of Trump, said Jan. 6 was a violent riot not a coup d’etat. Sen. Rand Paul fears that if Democrats and Republicans deviate from the Constitution, the country will suffer. He favors letting Trump go quietly into the night after Biden’s inauguration.

Impeaching Trump under the House’s Article 1 authority must be Constitutional, not a vendetta against Trump. Pelosi showed clearly she’s let her emotions get the better of her, filing spurious impeachment charges and pushing for conviction in the Senate. Paul wants GOP leader to get a grip and push back against Pelosi’s impeachment binge that lacks Constitutional authority. “Look, I didn’t agree with the [Capitol] fight that happened last week, and I voted against overturning the election, but at the same time, the impeachment is a wrongheaded, partisan notion, [and] if Republicans go along with it, it it’ll destroy the Party,” Paul said. Schumer admitted that the Democrat Senate caucus wants to prevent Trump from running for office again. That’s no reason to invoke impeachment based on the bogus claim that a small percentage of Trump audience stormed the Capitol and committed crimes.
