LOS ANGELES.–Abruptly flying back to Washington from the G7 summit in the Canadian Rockies, 79-year-old President Donald Trump convened his National Security Council to decide what to with the Iraeli-Iran war. Israel and Iran are trading blows daily, with Israel targeting Iran’s nuclear enrichment infrastructure and ballistic missile silos and manufacturing sites. Trump rushed back to Washington to make up his mind about helping Israel finish the job in Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked Trump to use the bunker buster GBU/57 A/M MOP to finish off Iran’s underground FORDO nuclear plant. All the hysteria in Congress talk about a protracted Mideast war, something Trump has no intent of starting. He wants Netanyahu to finish his war with Iran in short order, involving the use of the GBU/57, only delivered by a U.S. B-2 Stealth Bombers.
Why members of Congress think Trump would embroil the U.S. in another Mideast war is preposterous, he’s doing exactly the opposite. He wants to end the war in Iran as quickly as possible with obviously no U.S. troops involved, other than flying a bombing mission. Iran already sees the U.S. as involved in the war, so it really doesn’t matter what Iran thinks. Trump gave Iran’s 86-year-old Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei 60 days to complete a new nuke deal that would remove any threat from Israel linked to its nuclear enrichment program. “It’s a major political and military choice that could define his legacy in the Middle East,” said Behnam Ben Taleblu, director of the Iran program at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies. Trump warned Iran to not attack any U.S. interests in the Middle East without suffering immediate consequences.
Democrats and Republicans are debating in Congress a resolution that would require Trump to have Congressional approval before intervening in Iran. Trump operates under the 1973 War Powers Act requiring him to notify Congress within 48 hours of intervening, limiting any deployment for a period of 60 days without Congressional approval. Trump doesn’t need 60 days to order a B-2 Stealth Bomber to deliver the GBU/57 to destroy Iran’s FORDO nuclear facility. So all the hubbub in Congress is all for not because Trump would complete any U.S. involvement in short order. Anti-war MAGA Republicans like Tucker Carlson don’t need to question Trump’s commitment to staying out of foreign wars. Trump does not plan to mobilize any U.S. troops into a combat situation. Trump plans to use U.S. air and sea assets to help Israel complete its war with Iran.
Iran’s 86-year-old Supreme Leader and closest his military advisers live in a bubble, all telling themselves the same things about their ballistic missile inventory. Watching the last five days of war indicates that Iran is defenseless, unable to control its own air space, leaving itself vulnerable to Israeli air strikes. Picking off targets in Iran is like shooting fish in a barrel, there’s nothing stopping Israel’s air force from having its way with any target it chooses. Trump has assessed the situation that Iran will not stop enriching uranium unless it agrees to a new nuke deal. He told Iran’s 62-year-old Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi that if he wants to sign a new peace deal he’d be happy to do it and end the five-day war. Trump found that after five meetings with his Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff that talks were going nowhere. Suddenly, Araghchi says Iran is ready to go back to the table.
Vice President J.D. Vance, one of Trump’s biggest MAGA supporters, said Trump has earned the trust of the American people to do what’s best in U.S. foreign policy and national security. “Having seen this up close and personal, I can assure you that he [Trump] is only interested in using the American military to accomplish American people’s goals,” said the Iraqi War veteran. Vance has no concern about any intervention with Iran morphing into a wider conflict, only lending some assistance to Israel. Ayatollah Khamenei badly miscalculated and overplayed his hand with Israel after putting his proxy groups, like Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis, at war with Israel for years. Ayatollah didn’t help matters hosting Holocaust denial conferences and calling for Israel’s destruction over the years. Netanyahu fully exposed the Ayatollah’s fake military prowess.
Members of Congress need to take a chill pill and stop pretending Trump would get the U.S. into a protracted conflict with Iran. Iran is on its last legs with the mullah government teetering under the current Israeli bombardment. Foreign leaders and military experts bought the Ayatollah’s hype lock, stock and barrel, not realizing the Iran was no different that Iraq when it fell in only a few weeks back in 2003. Netanyahu exposed Iran’s incompetent military, relying only on its ballistic missiles and drones for its national defense. Ayatollah thought, like Saddam Hussein, he could bluff his way to keep enemies at bay by enriching uranium. Whether Iran would have eventually developed an A-bomb is anyone’s guess? But what’s known know is that its over-hyped military is in shambles. Congress needs to assess the situation and know U.S. involvement would be very limited.
