LOS ANGELES.–Showing that not everyone at Fox News likes 78-year-old President Donald Trump, 81-year-old senior political pundit Brit Hume slammed Trump for saying in a Feb. 28 Oval Office meeting that Ukraine’s 47-year-old President Volodymyr Zelensky “doesn’t have the cards.” Hume often gripes about Trump only bowing down to him after he won the 2024 presidential election in a decisive fashion. Hume said then the Trump was no question the greatest Republican politician of his time, maybe ever. But that doesn’t stop Hume from taking swipes at Trump for whatever reason. Hume knows that Trump works day-and-night to fulfill his campaign promise of ending the Ukraine War. When he met with Zelensky Feb. 28, he was supposed to sign a long-term rare earth mineral deal, joining Ukraine and the U.S. in a joint venture for years to come.
Zelensky of course threw a fit Feb. 28 and was asked to leave the White House. Now Hume says that you see Ukraine really does have some cards when dealing with the Kremlin, citing its recent success with Zelensky’s stealth drone attack destroying some of Russia’s strategic bombing fleet. No one in the press can verify exactly how many planes Russia lost with Zelensky exaggerating the losses at some 40 planes. Russia disputes his claiming the number at much lower but not revealing any real bomb-damage assessment. “I certainly does establishing that this country, showing president was being told at the White House that he didn’t have any cards to play, that he apparently has quite a few cares to play, including this daring attack,” Hume told Shannon Bream on Fox New “Special Report.” Hume knows that Zelensky pretends to be involved in peace talks in Istanbul.
Hume’s statement clearly takes glee proving Trump wrong about Zelensky not having any cards. Well, Zelensky took some year-and-and-half planning the drone attack that apparently had some success in destroying Russian military hardware. But what cards does Zelensky really have? Does sabotaging peace talks in Instanbul sound like a good idea? Hume suggests that Zelensky has the cards to avoid holding peace talks. Hamas also planned to ambush Israel Oct. 7, 2023, where did that get them? Hume surely knows that Zelensky has no real cards against the Russian Federation, only periodic pinprick attacks to keep the war going. Hume wants to take a swipe at Trump for telling Zelensky he had no cards. Trump tried to tell Zelensky to work with the White House to negotiate an end to the Ukraine War to start the lengthy and costly rebuilding process.
Hume praised Zelensky’s operation that used drones deep inside Russia to destroy some portion of Russia’s strategic bombing fleet. So, in supporting the operation, Hume, like other Neocons, wants the war to keep going, doing everything to sabotage Trump peace plans. Knowing that Fox News senior political pundit backs Ukraine’s operation running counter to U.S. foreign policy and national security undermines Trump’s peace efforts. How’s Russia President Vladimir Putin supposed to happily go to the peace table when Zelensky launches attacks deep inside Russian territory? Trump wanted Zelensky to get on the same page of negotiating and compromising for peace. Trump found out the hard way that Zelensky doesn’t want peace, he wants to keep the war going indefinitely, primarily to collect billions of dollars from the EU.
Trump’s attempt to get through to Zelensky Feb. 28 in the Oval Office was futile because he doesn’t want peace, he wants it only on his terms. Listening to Brit Hume gleefully contradict Trump saying Zelensky actually does have cards, about the same as Hamas had with Israel. Hume reveals he’s an anti-Trump conservative along the same lines as conservative William Kristol or former Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Ut.). It doesn’t matter what policy Trump does, the never Trumpers oppose his policies because he has his name on it. Surely Hume has enough common sense to know that Ukraine cannot defeat the Russian military. Postponing peace efforts only results in more destruction and carnage to Ukraine. Hume says Zelensky has cards because he’s capable occasionally of ambushing the Russian Federation. Clearly, Hume knows better just trash-talking Trump.
Fox News should seriously reconsider using Brit Hume as a political pundit because he lets his anti-Trump bias get in the way of his analysis. Zelensky has no cards when it comes to peace talks in Ukraine other than threatening to keep the war going. Hume makes a fool of himself and Fox News arguing the Zelensky really holds the cards because he ambushed Russia in a year-and-a-half operation. He’s wrecked Ukraine’s infrastructure, killed thousands of citizens, exiled millions and lost 20-25% of Ukraine’s sovereign territory in over three years of war. Does Hume really think that Zelensky holds the cards in peace negotiations? “That’s a major setback for Russia,” Hume told Bream. “It is an embarrassing intelligence failure and embarrassing defense failure. And who knows what else the Ukrainians, who have proved pretty ingenious, may have up their sleeves,” Humes said.
