LOS AGNELES.–Special Counsel Robert Ur, 50, released his 345-page report about 81-year-old President Joe Biden’s classified documents found at his Delaware home and office at the University of Pennsylvania, deciding to not move forward with prosecution, presenting a double standard when it comes to 77-year-old former President Donald Trump. Trump said Biden retained ten times the documents found in White House moving boxes in the locked basement of his Palm Beach Mar-a-Lago estate. Trump was indicted June 8, 2023 for illegally retaining classified docs, charged under the 1917 Espionage Act. Voters are aghast at the difference in treatment between Biden and Trump over retention of classified docs, with Biden’s backers saying he promptly resolved the situation while Trump dragged his feet. Whatever the reason, Special Counsel Robert Ur raised some serious question about Biden’s mental fitness.
Interviewing Biden, Hur found that Biden could not remember when he was Vice President [2009-2017], or when his son Beau Biden died. Trump raised Biden’s cognitive decline running against him in 2020, warning that Biden would get the country into WW III. Today’s war in Ukraine with the Russian Federation, military actions in the Middle East and growing tensions with China over Taiwan shows a world closer to the brink under Biden’s leadership. Hur did not recommend prosecution in part because Biden “would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory,” Ur said in his report. “It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him—by then a former president well into his eighties—of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness,” Ur said.
Deciding not to charge Biden was met with mixed reactions by the White House. “We disagree with a number of inaccurate and inappropriate comments in the Special Counsel’s report,” said White House Counsel Robert Sauber. “Nonetheless, the most important decision the Speical Counsel made—that no charges are warranted—is firmly based on the fact and the evidence,” Sauber said. Ur didn’t say that no charges were warranted, only that he probably couldn’t get a conviction because of Biden’s mental state. Sauber thinks it’s inappropriate for the Special Counsel to reveal to the public Biden’s mental state. Forgetting when his first term as Vice President ended or when his son Beau died reveals for all to see Biden’s extraordinary limitations. “He did not remember within several years when his son Beau died,” Ur said in his report about Joe’s memory lapses.
During his interview with Hur, Biden could not answer the most basic questions about his time as Vice President. “In his interview with our office, Mr. Biden’s memory was worse. He did not remember when he was vice president, forgetting on the first day of the interview when his term ended [“if it was 2013—when did I stop being vice president?”] and forgetting on the second day of the interview when his term had begun [“in 2009 am I still vice president?”] “He did not remember even with several years when his son Beau died,” showing the extent of Biden’s memory impairment, covered up by the White House and the U.S. press. Biden’s failed memory and inability to communicate is a danger to U.S. national security, letting him continue to conduct state business. Ur’s report raises real issues related to the 25th Amendment, whether Biden should be removed from office.
Biden’s cognitive decline should come as no surprise to anyone, especially to Biden’s lawyers dealing with his documents’ case. Making more excuses hasn’t improved confidence with 2024 voters that think in overwhelming numbers that Biden is too old and disabled for another four years in office. “The president’s inability to recall dates or details of events that happened years ago is neither surprising nor unusual,” said Sauber and Bob Bauer, both White House lawyers. Sauber and Bauer can’t be serious that Joe doesn’t recall when he was Vice President or when his son died. Does that sound to them like normal memory glitches?” More excuses for Biden doesn’t reassure voters that have said Biden is too mentally and physically disabled to serve another term. How many more excuses can Democrats and the press make to jeopardize U.S. national security.
Ur’s report speaks volumes about Justice Department politics, having no problem throwing the book at Trump and giving Biden a pass. Whatever the use of political prosecution, Ur’s report says much more about Joe’s memory impairments that jeopardize U.S. national security with Biden managing domestic and foreign crises. How are foreign leaders supposed to trust American leadership when the president suffers from hearing and cognitive challenges, making diplomacy next to impossible. Biden’s political handlers and the press have to stop playing games and covering for the president because of how it puts the nation at risk. If Joe can’t remember when he was Vice President or when his favorite son died, it’s not, as his attorneys say, normal forgetfulness. Gaffes and glitches are one thing but cognitive decline is a serious matter.
