LOS ANGELES.–Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, 62, mercifully ended his fake presidential campaign today, pressured to get out by Republicans looking to defeat 77-year-old former President Donald Trump. Christie was a one-trick pony running his campaign for only one purpose to slam Trump, all because, the once Trump backer, didn’t get a Cabinet position after running Trump’s 2016 transition team. Christie hoped to get Attorney General, a position that eventually went to 77-year-old former Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Al.). Christie would have been a much better pick, especially after Sessions recused himself of presiding over matters related to the Russian hoax. Trump fired 63-year-old former FBI James Comey May 8, 2017 in the middle of the Russian hoax investigation. Had Christie been Attorney General, Trump wouldn’t have faced Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s 22-month investigation.
Trump didn’t pick Christie for a Cabinet post because he was in the middle of the Bridgegate scandal where Christie shut down lanes on the George Washington Bridge to Fort Lee, New Jersey to punish its former Mayor Mark Sokolo for not supporting his second term as governor. “My goal was never to be just a voice against the hate and the division and the selfishness of what our part has become under Donald Trump,” Christie said in a New Hampshire town hall. But Christie’s entire campaign was ripping Trump, all because he carried his vendetta against Trump into a campaign. Christie ran in 2016, having the exact same result as 2024, polling at under 5%, never enough to win any primary or a path to the nomination, largely because of his snark.
Christie liked appearing on most liberal national TV shows to rip Trump, making best friends with liberal hosts on CNN and MSNBC, not to mention quoted in the anti-Trump New York Times and Washington Post. Christie talks about a voice of hate but he personified it, displaying no plan for undoing the damage done by 81-year-old President Joe Biden. In fact, Christie wholeheartedly backs Biden’s destructive foreign policy, going to war against the Kremlin and pushing for war with Communist China. Christie’s foreign policy mirrors Biden, an incoherent hodgepodge or warmongering and Neocon slogans about preserving freedom while engaging the U.S. endless foreign wars. Under Christie’s foreign policy, Biden would continue his self-destructive legacy of destroying U.S. foreign policy and national security, feeding the Ukraine war indefinitely.
Christie’s campaign was built on his constant statement of “the fact of the matter is,” a common expression for attorney’s pushing legal theories or hazarding personal opinions when expressing bereft ideas. “I’ve always said that if there came a time in this race when I could see a path to accomplishing that goal, that I would get out,” Christie said. What a crock. Christie’s known from the jump, that first GOP debate in Milwaukee Aug. 23, 2023, that he polled at about 2%, an embarrassing response to what he said were deep pockets backing his campaign. Christie got most on his cash from the Lincoln Project, a loosely knit group of conservatives led by columnist William Kristol and attorney George Conway, representing the never Trumpers. Lincoln project failed to stop Trump in 2016 and so did the Obama administration using federal intel and law endorcement to stop Trump.
Republicans hope that Christie’s departure from the race would give a boost to former Amb. Nikki Haley or Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Christie directed most of his ire to billionaire biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy who frequently attacked Haley. Christie went to Haley’s defense in the last GOP debate Dec. 6 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Christie didn’t like when Ramaswamy exposed Haley for flip-flopping her position of Communist China with whom she gladly did business in South Carolina as governor from 2011-2017. Christie told Ramaswamy he was the biggest blowhard in America, to which Ramaswamy invited Christie to get out and have a good meal. Christie is morbidly obese, despite his bariatric surgery and many attempts at dieting and reducing. Christie presented himself as the senior GOP candidate, after experiencing complete failure in 2016.
Getting out of the race, Christie has not endorsed Haley or DeSantis. DeSantis was surprised Christie didn’t throw his backing to Haley, leaving the possibility, if polls are correct, that Christie would throw his support to DeSantis. Christie thinks that Haley isn’t up to the task of running for president, making serious gaffes in recent days. Haley told an Iowa audience that freedom and states rights was the cause of the Civil War. Guess she forgot about the 1861 Emancipation Proclamation signed as an executive order before the Civil War by President Abraham Lincoln. Haley also forgot that she told Bloomberg Aug. 24, 2023, one day after the first debate, that “65 was way too young for retirement.” So when it comes to Christie’s endorsement, it looks like he’s leaning to DeSantis, despite the fact that it may not mean too much. Christie learned that voters don’t like snarky candidates.
