Former President Donald Trump, 77, has been accused by the media establishment of trying to destroy American democracy, claiming he would operate above the law, not following the U.S. Constitution. Democrats and the media have it in for Trump, doing everything possible to prevent him from his 2024 bid for president. But no matter how the 91 felony charges turn out, the U.S. press has falsely accused him before he even gets the GOP nomination of trying to destroy American democracy should he get back to the White House. When Trump ran in 2020, the media establishment accused him of botching the Covid-19 U.S. response to the global pandemic and promoting White Supremacy and racism. When Trump lost the Nov. 3, 2020 election, it was clear that Democrats and the press succeeded in scaring enough voters away to hand the White House to 81-year-old President Joe Biden.
Trump’s GOP colleagues have accused him of cowardly ducking the GOP debates, fearing GOP candidates would pounce on the chance to attack the former president. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) has bated Trump for the last three debates to get him on stage to confront him with a litany of issues. Christie, who polls at 2% nationally, shouldn’t be in tonight’s final GOP debate before the Iowa Caucuses, built his entire campaign on condemning the former president, largely because he didn’t receive a Cabinet post in 2016 while backing Trump for office. Christie turned from zealot Trump-backer to his worst critic in the 2024 campaign. Unfortunately for Christie, he’s an hour late and dollar short of having any impact on the 2024 race. Tonight’s debate in Tuscaloosa, Alabama promises more of the same attacks on Trump but watching candidates go after each other.
Christie, who most likely will drop out of the 2024 race in Iowa or the latest New Hampshire, continues to bait Trump
into showing up. Without Trump on stage, far fewer voters are tuning in, knowing that none of the candidates on stage, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former U.N. Amb. Nikki Haley, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and Christie, can win the nomination. “Obviously, he’s afraid. He’s afraid to get on the stage against people who are serious,” Christie said back in May. But Christie has been rebuffed by Trump primarily because it doesn’t matter to voters whether or not Trump shows up. Trump’s so far ahead in the polls, Christie and the others are irrelevant. No one understands how someone facing 91 felonies can run a competitive campaign without attending the sanctioned GOP debates. Trump’s following want him back in the White Houose.
Republicans have worked hard with Democrats to prevent Trump from running again. “Democracy demands transparency and accountability. Trump has avoided both, but not with the help of the GOP,” said Jennifer Horn, former chair of the New Hampshire Republican party. Horn wanted to see Trump confronted on the debate stage, largely because she’d like to derail his 2024 candidacy. Horn knows that Trump doesn’t show up to the GOP debates because overwhelming numbers of GOP voters have already spoken. They want Trump to win the nomination and take on Biden in 2024. Anti-Trump Republicans, Democrats and the press have done everything possible to stop Trump’s reelection. Accusing Trump of seeking to destroy democracy is preposterous. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said it was hogwash that Trump wants to wreck democracy.
When you look at the Department of Justice history of going after Trump, using the FBI to investigate his 2016 campaign accusing the former president of colluding with Russia, who’s the one wrecking American democracy? How can any American feel safe knowing that criminal justice system can be weaponized to go after political candidates? Tonight’s debate won’t offer anything knew, only go after old ground. Candidates all want to go after Trump but they don’t have the backing to do so effectively. As long as Trump is up by over 40% in the polls, it’s tough for the remaining candidates to have any credibility.
Trump’s backers don’t buy the government legal cases against the former president. Christie says in beneath the office to run 91 felony charges. Trump’s backers simply don’t accept the charges as anything more than a political witch hunt.
Getting close to the Iowa caucuses, Trump’s rivals all get that sinking feeling that nothing they’re doing makes any difference. Christie calls Trump a coward for not getting on the debate stage. But why should Trump dignify Christie’s accusations when he polls at 2%? Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel would like to see Christie drop out, seeing where things would go. Christie has refused to suspend his fake campaign because he’s playing spoiler, not really running for president. Trump did a smart think ignoring Christie’s taunts, knowing he’d likely to be gone in the next month. Christie knows his 2024 campaign is numbered, likely to end after Iowa, certainly New Hampshire. All the talk of Trump the dictator is pure Democrat and media propaganda, attempting to discredit Trump before the 2024 presidential election.
