Ukraine’s 44-year-old President Volodymyr Zelensky complained about the European Union [EU] having mixed feelings about boycotting all Russian oil. Zelensky doesn’t acknowledge the damage done to the U.S. and world economy by trying to boycott Russian oil, accounting for some 5% of U.S. and 30% of EU’s petroleum supplies. Since President Joe Biden’s, 79, boycott of Russian oil, U.S. pump prices have gone up by nearly 50%, spreading economic misery to everyday Americans. To Zelensky, no one incurs more hardship than Ukraine battling the Russian Federation, watching much of its infrastructure destroyed and widespread carnage. “How many more weeks will the European Union try to agree on a sixth package?” Zelensky asked, saying the burden of fighting the Russian Federation falls on Ukraine. Can you imagine, Zelensky blames the EU for not doing enough?
Zelensky has said publicly before that the burden of the war to save Western democracy has fallen on Ukraine. But that’s how Zelensky spins the battle with the Russian Federation, trying to make it a global problem, not a border dispute with the Russian Federation. Zelensky’s predecessors decided Feb. 22, 2014 to topple the Kremlin backed government of Viktor Yanukovych. When the dust settled after the coup, Putin seized the Crimean Peninsula to protect his Sevastopol naval base. Kiev’s new government knew there would be consequences to toppling Yanukovych’s government. Yet if you listen to Zelensky, it’s never enough, not all the U.S. and NATO arms, not all the cash paid by American taxpayers to fund the war, but more importantly, the Ukrainian government. Without U.S. war funding, Kiev would be bankrupt, unable to pay civil servants.
Zelensky for the life of him can’t figure out the sacrifices already made by the U.S. and EU to fund his government and war against the Russian Federation. Zelenksy isn’t satisfied because he thinks Ukraine has already incurred the lion’s share of the war burden. But who has forced Zelensky into an endless battle with the Russian Federation? Zelensky showed, at least to the West, so much bravery going up against the mighty Kremlin. But what has it done for Ukraine? He’s destroyed much of Ukraine’s infrastructure, killed thousands of civilians and driven over 6 million into exile. So what does Zelensky hope to accomplish battling the Russian Federation? Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, still more lucid than most, said the U.S. and Ukraine should move the conflict to the peace table. As long as Biden gives Zelensky cash and unlimited arms, he has no desire for peace.
Zelensky knows he already lost so much territory, Putin has the upper hand in any negotiations. Asking the EU for more sanctions, Zelensky hopes to have more leverage but, like quicksand, he’s been sinking for some time. Zelensky fears he’ll be ousted from power when the Ukrainian public and elected officials realize that the Ukraine War has gone backwards. Looking at the map of Russian-controlled territory tells the real story of how much Black Sea coastline Zelensky has lost. How is he supposed to get it back, now that Putin is in firm control? Kissinger told the truth that the war won’t get his land back. Only by sitting at the peace table cable Ukraine reclaim some of its lost Black Sea coast. “Of course I am grateful to those friends who are advocating new sanctions. But where do the people blocking this sixth package get their power from? Why are they allowed to hold such power,” Zelensky asked.
When former President Barack Obama’s Syrian proxy war against Bashar al-Assad raged for eight years, it practically broke up the EU. Brussels’ open door policy on taking millions of Syrian refugees drove Brexit, eventually breaking off the U.K. from Brussels. So what’s Zelensky trying to, break up the EU again? What right does he have to dictate what the EU or U.S. does with respect to the Ukraine War. Neither the U.S. nor the EU is obligated to resolve Zelensky’s war wit the Russian Federation. U.S. and EU citizens have already seen inflation and economic hardship due to the Ukraine War. Zelensky talks like he’s in control of Brussels. Someone in Brussels should set Zelensky straight that the EU has different opinions how to deal with the Ukraine War. No all states want to boycott Russian oil, because Zelensky and Biden think it’s OK to drag the Ukraine War to the U.S. and EU.
Zelensky blames everyone but himself for his decision to battle the Russian Federation. Putin set his conditions two months ago for ending the conflict, requiring Ukraine to assure the impendence of Donetsk and Luhansk, and recognize Crimea as sovereign Russian territory. With U.S. cash and arms, Zelensky decided he’s battle the Kremlin to evict what he calls the Russian occupiers. .But it was Zelensky’s decision to go to war against the Russian Federation, not a decision made in Washington or Brussels. But Washington and Brussels should take note of how Zelenskyh wants to call the shots, even though Ukraine is broke, wholly dependent on U.S. tax dollars. “Pressure on Russia is literally a matter of saving lives. And every day of procrastination, weakness, various disputes or proposals to ‘pacify’ the aggressor at the expense of the victim merely means more Ukrainians being killed. Meaning, it’s the EU’s fault.
