Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned Sweden and Finland to not seek NATO membership, saying it would destabilize the region by continuing to assert NATO dominance. “We have repeatedly said that the alliance remains a tool geared towards confrontation and its further expansion will no bring stability to the European continent,” Peskov said. Putin invaded Ukraine Feb. 24 because NATO had encroached through arming Ukraine on Russian National Security. When Putin brought up security concerns with 79-year-old President Joe Biden Dec. 24, Biden told him his ideas were all “non-starters.” Putin was told by Biden and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg that it was against the NATO charter to prevent any country from NATO membership. Ukraine’s 44-year-old President Volodymyr Zelensky begged NATO for membership since taking office May 20, 2019.
Biden has repeated the same talking points that the Ukraine War was “unprovoked and unjustified,” knowing he ignored Putin’s requests for months for new security arrangements. Putin told Biden Dec. 24, 2022 that if he refused to negotiate new security arrangements, the Kremlin would take “military-technical measures” to protect Russian national security. So Ukraine was heavily armed by the U.S. and NATO over Putin’s objections for months before Putin invaded Dec. 24, 2021. Biden completely denies that his refusal to dialogue with Putin about new security arrangements caused Putin to invade Ukraine. But since the war started, Biden has run it out of the White House not Kiev, supplying Ukraine with unlimited weapons and over $16 billion in cash to prosecute a proxy war against the Russian Federation. Ukraine’s war is not about sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Zelensky had lost Crimea March 1, 2014 to the Russian Federation after a Feb. 22, 2014 CIA-backed pro-Western coup toppled the Kremlin-friendly government of Viktor Yanukovych. Putin annexed Crimea to protect his Sevastopol naval based after Yanukovych was chased out of Kiev. So when Zelensky talks about Ukraine’s territorial integrity, he’s already lost Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansky, both Russian-speaking territories near the Russian border. Today’s war is about beating back the Russian army, now, hoping to for the U.S. and Ukraine to beat Putin’s invasion. If you listen to the White House and U.S. press, Russia has lost the war, despite reducing Ukraine to rubble all over the country. Every day that Zelensky lets the war continue, he inflicts intolerable pain on the Ukrainian people. Biden and Zelensky have refused to take Istanbul peace talks seriously, continuing the war
Ukrainian authorities complain about Russian bombardment all over the country, killing and endangering children, the elderly and everyone else. “The situation is even worse in cities like Mariopupl and Kherson, where children and their families have now gone weeks without running water and sanitation services, a regular supply of food, and and medical care,” said Manuel Fontaine, Unicef’s Director of Emergency Programs. Fontaine says that over a million Ukrainian children are at risk of hunger. When Biden and Zelensky make their military calculations, shifting the battle to Donbass, they act like Russia should stop the war when the U.S. and Ukraine continue unabated. When Zelensky talks of all the destruction and carnage over Ukraine, he doesn’t talk about Istanbul ceasefire talks. Zelensky and Biden think they can actually lure Putin into a trap in Donbass and defeat his army.
All the humanitarian concerns by the U.N. and other human rights groups could be improved by moving the battle to the peace table, not the battlefield. But with the U.S. and NATO continuing to give Ukraine lethal weapons, Zelensky has no plans on surrendering on the battlefield. Rumors about Russia using chemical weapons have not been confirmed, something Biden said would be a game-changer. As the war continues, Biden and Zelensky continue accuse Putin for war crimes and human rights abuses. “Russia occupation forces used poisonous substance of unknown origin against Ukrainian military and civilians in the city of Mariupol, which was dropped by an enemy drone,” said the Ukrainian military. No one could confirm the presence of chemical weapons, despite the allegation. “The victims have respiratory failure . . . the effect of the unknown substance are being clarified,”
Battlefield propaganda has no way of verification, since both sides look to make the other look bad. Whether accepted or not, the Ukraine War goes on unabated because neither side looks to settle the conflict at the peace table. It’s clear from Biden and Zelensky, they believe they can take down the Russian army, d riving Putin from power. Putin is well-aware that the Ukraine War is run out of the White House, leaving the ultimate battle between Russia and the U.S. While Ukrainians, at the moment, do the fighting, the U.S. and NATO supplie all the arms-and-cash, leaving the conflict a proxy war between the U.S. and Russia. “This war must stop now . . . We are increasingly hearing of rape and sexual violence. These allegation must be independently investigated to ensure justice and accountability,” said Sima Bahous, Director of the U.N. Women’s agency in the Security Council.
