Watching violence spread in Almaty, Kazakhstan, President, 69-uear-old Russian President Vladimir Putin finds himself juggling insurrections around the former Soivet satellites. “Armenian President Nikol Pashinyan said he would go to Kazakastan to stabilize what’s begun an new anarchy front in the former Soviet satellites. Russia’s Sputnik New Agency said that two Kazakh soldiers were killed in the uprising promising security forces to retain orders from the Kremlin. Nursultan Nazarbayev, 81, an old Soviet-era boss, where Nursultan controls much of Kazakhastan’s economy, the larges arms supplies in the Caucus states. With Khazakstan the most prosperous country in Central Asia. Nazerbayev has no way to deal with the current uprising other that cracking down on rebel forces.
Putin has his hand full managing a seriously unstable situation in Ukraine, where pro-Democracy forces have forced Putin to put some 100,000 troops on the Ukrainian border. Secretary of State Tony Blinken warned Putin today the U.S. won’t be deterred by Russia aggression on Ukraine. With the U.S. and Russia due to meet on high-end diplomacy later in the next few weeks. Younger generations of Kazakhs want more democracy, attraction billions in foreign investment to the region. Like in Ukraine, and actually in the Russian Federation, a young generation of leaders look to end rule by oligarchy pf the old Soviet state. Tokayev took over the state government from Tokayev, Nazarbayev’s nephew holding the No. 2 position of the Security Council on Wesdnesday, a bad sign from Putin.
Tokayev said he appealed to the Security Treaty Organizaion [CSTO] to obtain immediate assistance to stop “terrorist” gangs from taking over the country. Tokayev said terrorists had seized military planes at the Almaty Airport. “ It is an undermining of the integrity of the state and most importantly it is an effort to attack our citizens who are asking more to help them,” Tokayev said. Putin’s got a wild state of anarchy to deal with especially because he can’t hold the border with Ukraine. Blinken made clear today the the U.S. won’t be dealt with a the barrel of a gun. “Almaty was attacked, destroyed” Dmitry Rogozin, head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, saying Russia has strengthened everything effort to reinforces the Russian Federation, especially around the Baikonur Consmodrome in Kazakhstan.
It’s going to take some time for Kazakhztan to restore order, knowing that it’s another example of how former Soviet States continue to unravel the Soviet Union’s 1991 collapse. Putin can’t fathom as he clings to authoritarian rule in the former Soviet satellite that people are looking for a change. When it comes to Ukraine, it’s no different because forcing authoritarian rule on Ukraine has backfired. When Putin incarcerated Russian dissident Aliexi Navalny 2020. he squelched Putin’s free press and hopes for more democracy. Putin of course saw democracy as a crackdown on the Russian state, demanding that he won’t let go of authoritarian rule in the former Soviet Republics. Biden and Blinken have done everything possible to stop Russia from promoting a pro-democracy movement
Kazakhastan is the tip of the iceberg for Putin’s tenuous rule in the former Soviet Republics. Biden has been told by Putin that more provocations by the U.S. would result in a break up of diplomatic relations. Biden’s been talking tough with German officials, especially on the Nord Stream 2 Pipeline. German don’t want to go to the mat with Biden over Ukraine Kazakhstan, knowing he can push things too far with Putin where it will be difficult to come back. Whatever happens in Kazakhstan is roughly equivalent to what’s happening in Ukraine, where Putin has pushed things too for and must balance the consequences. No one in the European Union wants to see Putin break off ties to the U.S. or Brussels, all over Ukraine. No on in the EU really thinks that Ukraine or Kazakhztan has any national security significance to the U.S. OR NATO.
