Famed Ivy League University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business, where 73-year-old President Donald Trump graduated in 1968, jumped into the coronvirus AKA SARS CoV-2 or Covid-19 forecasting game. It’s ironic, that Wharton, one of the country’s elite business schools, wants to compete with Bill Gates-funded University of Washington Institute for Health Care Metrics and Evaluation [IHME] which told California Gov. Gavin Newsom March 19 that 60% or 25.5 million residents would be infected with coronavirus in two weeks. Why Wharton isn’t focused on the decimation to the U.S. economy from “shelter in place” orders is anyone’s guess. Public health officials are the last ones to consult about the U.S. economy, judging by the economic Depression now faced in the U.S. With over 30 million unemployed and climbing, Wharton has more important work to do.
Forecasting today that if governors open up their states to businesses, the Wharton Budget Model predicts another 117,000 people will die in the U.S. by Jun 30, bringing the total deaths to 84,189,403. Wherever Wharton gets the figures right is anyone’s guess. But no matter what the number-crunching, it’s irresponsible to publish fear-mongering forecasts to a population already terrified to return to work. What’s interesting is the political divide between Democrats and Republicans on the return to work issue. New polls show that Democrats by a 30% margin believe return to work orders by state governors are premature, even knowing disastrous economic circumstances now faced by the country. Differences between Democrats and Republicans speak volumes about the pernicious propaganda spewed by Democrats and the U.S. medic establishment.
Whatever number of deaths happen from the SARS CoV-2 outbreak, it will have little to do with extreme mitigation measures advocated by public health officials. Without shutting down the economy, the same forecasts that now predict more deaths due to reopening the country can’t say with certainty how many lives were saved. What’s known for sure is that the country now suffers from another Great Recession, possibly a depression with record levels of unemployment. Advocates for keeping the country shut down can’t forecast how much disease, malnutrition, violence, suicides and death result from record unemployment and more homelessness. Wharton should look at what happens with more extreme poverty, not whether or not more people will die from an infections disease crisis. With or without the virus, the government must support jobs and the economy.
Trump doesn’t like dire predictions from forecasting services promoting more useless fear in the public. When you consider that Democrats, by a 30% margin want the country to remain shuttered, it has to do the mainstream anti-Trust media, opposing Trump’s phased plan to open up the country. Democrats have lost their jobs, maybe even more than Republicans, and suffer indignity of unemployment, poverty and more homelessness. Democrats and anti-Trump press have made continue to make the coronavirus epidemic political, stooping to news lows agreeing with Communist China, condemning Trump for a slow response. What’s alarming is Democrats and media have brainwashed their constituents into believing it’s better to receive unemployment benefits and government grants than returning to work. Republicans are eager to get back to work and return to “normal” lives
Advocating “shelter in place” no longer involves a public health issue for Democrats but a way to beat Trump in November. If the economy tanks so badly by November, conventional wisdom has Democrat presumptive nominee 77-year-old former Vice President Joe Biden beating Trump. Any discrepancy between Democrats and Republicans mirror the deliberate brainwashing by Democrats and the press to exaggerate the risks of SARS CoV-2. While it’s true that there are 1,168,212 cases and 68,598 U.S. cases and deaths, it’s also true that at least 50% of the infected population exhibit no symptoms at all. About 10% of cases require hospitalization, far fewer requiring ICU life-saving measure like oxygen and ventilators. For the vast majority of infected Americans, they either have mild flu-like symptoms or no symptoms at all, making you wonder about today’s “shelter in place” orders.
Democrats and their friends in the press will find themselves losing their jobs at an alarming rate in the not to distant future. While politicizing the global pandemic today, Democrats and press have inadvertently written their own obituaries. No industry, certainly not print and broadcast journalism, are immune to economic downturns, especially recessions and depressions. If the economy doesn’t recover, many to the print and broadcast journalists advocating fiercely to continue “shelter in place” order could lose their jobs soon. Alarming insensitivity to people who’ve already lost their jobs, run out of money, unable to pay rent of mortgage payments, driven into poverty and homelessness will wind up backfiring on Democrats and the press. Trump prescription of a phased in return to employment is the only path forward for a nightmare scenario of record high unemployment, poverty and misery.
