Refusing to accept the findings of the March 22 Mueller Report, Democrats in Congress have moved the goal posts, no longer interested in whether President Donald Trump broke the law when it came to Russian collusion and obstruction of justice. In order to keep the witch-hunt going to smear Trump heading into the 2020 presidential campaign, House Judiciary Chairman Jerold Nadler (D-N.Y.) and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) insist that Atty. Gen. William Barr is trying to protect Trump. “Remember, [Barr] is a biased person. He is someone who is an agent of the administration, is an appointee, a political appointee of the president whose interests he may very well be protecting here,” Nadler told CBS’s “Face the Nation” today. Nadler doesn’t say that if Mueller felt Barr showed bias or misrepresented himself, he’d be the first person to cry foul.
Barr delivered his four-page “bottom line” conclusions of 400-page Mueller report March 24, saying the Department of Justice would not pursue charges of Russian collusion or obstruction of justice against Trump. “The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated [AKA collusion] with the Russian government in its election interference activities,” read Barr’s four-page summary. Yet to preserve the damaging effect of Mueller’s investigation on the president, Nadler and Schiff moved the goal posts, no longer concerned about whether Trump broke criminal statutes. Unnamed members of the Mueller team, reported in the New York Times and Washington Post, contend that Barr did not raise all the issues on collusion and obstruction of justice. No one knows whether or not the New York Times or Washington Post had any credible sources.
Since Mueller began investigating Trump May 17, 2017, numerous reports using anonymous sources in The New York Times and Washington Post proved false, hinting that last week’s report was false too. If the Times or Post refuse to name inside sources, then it’s probably not credible. When your consider Mueller is not deaf, dumb or blind, he’s perfectly capable to setting the record straight if Barr misrepresented the final report. Saying there as “ample evidence of collusion in plain sight,” Schiff claims he has better information than the Special Counsel. Schiff now claims that congressional oversight has a different standard than the Special Counsel, not using the guilt “beyond a reasonable doubt” litmus test. Schiff believes he can set any arbitrary-and-capricious standard on which to investigate Trump. Schiff calls any politically-driven activity against Trump “oversight.”
Schiff can’t arbitrarily decide now that the Special Counsel has ruled to investigate Trump, placing the president, essentially, in double-jeopardy, charging-and-trying Trump twice for the same offense. Showing how desperate Congressional Democrats are to keep the Mueller report going, Schiff, tortured all logic to keep it going. “What we are talking about her is the difference between conduct that rises to the level of criminality and conduct that is deeply unethical, unpatriotic and corrupt that may not be criminal,” Schiff said. Nadler and Schiff want the “full” unedited Mueller Report to cherry-pick the findings to charge Trump with ethical-or-moral breaches. Forget about the two-year investigation that cleared Trump of criminal wrong-doing. Schiff makes zero sense that his “oversight” duties require him to investigate what he deems as moral or ethical lapses.
Schiff’s only motive to keep the Mueller investigation going is to throw as much mud on Trump before the 2020 election. “It’s our responsibility to root out fraud, corruption, waste, abuse, whether it rise to the level of criminality or not,” Schiff said. If that’s true, who investigates corruption at the highest level of House Committees, engaged in political witch hunts? Nadler and Schiff don’t take their oversight responsibilities seriously or they’d investigate themselves for abusing their authority for political purposes. Neither Nadler nor Schiff have once questioned the FBI investigation against Trump and his campaign without any probable cause other that former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s paid opposition research AKA “the dossier.” Former FBI Director James Comey used the “dossier” to seek warrants from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act [FISA] court to wiretap Trump’s campaign.
Nadler, Schiff and other Democrat chairmen-and-women of key House committees have abused their authority to keep the Mueller investigation going for political purposes. Democrats hoped they could use a negative Mueller report to harass Trump for the entire 2020 presidential campaign. Demanding the full-and-unedited Mueller report—threatening to issue subpoenas—shows how political they’ve become. Both know that Barr can’t release compromising information protected under grand jury and rules governing criminal procedure. Calling Barr a Trump lackey because he opined in the past about obstruction of justice issue doesn’t detract from their abuse of authority. If Mueller thought Barr acted improperly or misrepresented his findings, he would have spoke up without hesitation. Nadler and Schiff have only one goal in changing the goal posts—beating Trump in 2020.
