Stonewalling documents requested by the House Oversight Committee, Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) threatened to hold the FBI and Department of Justice [DOJ] in Contempt of Congress. At stake are essential FBI and DOJ files, transcripts, emails and text messages related to former Hillary Rodham Clinton’s email investigation and President Donald Trump’s alleged Russian collusion probe. With DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz finding in a 600-page report June 14 former FBI Director James Comey “insubordinate,” breaching protocol in Hillary’s email investigation, Gowdy wants answers to what happened between FBI Agent Peter Strzok and his lover, FBI attorney Lisa Page, exchanging anti-Trump emails during the 2016 campaign. Gowdy wants answers to former FBI Deputy. Dir. Andrew McCabe’s handling of Hillary’s email investigation.
Gowdy wants the FBI and DOJ records related to Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act [FISA] Court warrants to wiretap Trump campaign officials in 2016. Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee led by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) have done everything possible to prevent the release of crucial documents showing that the chain-of-command led from FBI agents like Strzok and McCabe or DOJ officials like former Atty. Gen. Loretta Lynch and National Security Adviser Susan Rice, all the way to former President Barack Obama. Gowdy seeks all the pertinent FBI and DOJ records to show that an Obama administration conspiracy existed to use the FBI, DOJ and National Security Agency [MSA], including the FISA Court, to prevent Donald Trump from becoming president. FBI and DOJ officials could not explain why they were wiretapping Trump campaign officials.
Testifying today before the Senate Judiciary Committee, FBI Director Christopher Wray and DOJ IG Michael Horowitz have a lot of explaining to do, especially why DOJ and FBI documents haven’t been released to appropriate House and Senate committees. Horowitz’s 600-pate report refutes Schiff’s explanation that the Trump administration has been disparaging the nation’s most coveted agencies. Gowdy wants, beyond all else, to clean house at the FBI and DOJ. It was, after all, Comey’s own testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee June 8, 2017 that he couldn’t trust former Atty. Gen. Loretta Lynch because she met with former President Bill Clinton June 30, 2016 on the tarmac on Phoenix Sky Harbor airport. It looked like Bill’s meeting with Lynch influenced the FBI’s July 5, 2017 decision to exonerate Hillary for careless handling of her emails while Secretary of State.
Former Deputy Asst. FBI Director Andrew McCabe was responsible for handling—with former Director Comey—Hillary’s email investigation. Comey and McCabe excused Hillary for deleting 33,000 emails plus physically destroying 12 cell phones. Both know that qualifies, beyond any doubt, as obstruction of justice. Yet Comey and McCabe exonerated Hillary July 5, 2016. Gowdy wants all the relevant documents to investigate Hillary’s exoneration. Democrat members of House and Senate committees want no part of looking at anything related to Hillary’s aborted email investigation. What they really don’t want is for evidence to point to Obama, directing his Attorney Genera and National Security Adviser to dredge up dirt on Trump to help Hillary’s chances. When Gowdy gets all the facts, it’s going to be a painful embarrassment to the DOJ and FBI.
When the GOP talks about the “deep state,” they’re referring precisely to folks like Strzok and Page who were exposed at the FBI working to defeat Trump. When you consider McCabe led the FBI’s Hillary email investigation, ignored her obvious obstruction, it also showed how the deep state operates. With the DOJ and FBI, there was no equal justice under the law, only a coordinated effort to use the nation’s most coveted agencies to help Hillary get elected. Going to the FISA Court to wiretap Trump campaign officials based on a phony “dossier” of Hillary’s paid opposition research, goes beyond the pale. With Wray promising to come clean, it’s possible the FBI and DOJ will cough up all the relevant documents to clear the air. House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) warned the DOJ and FBI that they faced contempt-of-Congress if they didn’t produce all the documents requested.
Democrats and their media friends don’t want the FBI and DOJ’s misdeeds to come out before the November Midterm elections. Despite aggregate polling showing Republicans look to retain both houses of Congress, Democrats don’t want any proof of corruption and conspiracy in Obama administration. Schiff’s running out of credibility blaming Republicans in Congress for creating a false narrative about the FBI and DOJ. While Democrats lashed out after the Nov. 8, 2016 election at Comey for his grandstanding before the election, they’ve backed 100% the FBI and Special Counsel going after Trump. Backing the FBI and Special Counsel gives Democrats hope they can turn the House and Senate back to their party in November. While the polls say otherwise, Democrats back the FBI and DOJ in their efforts before the Midterm elections to discredit Trump and the GOP.
