Using 68-year-old Judge Merrick Garland’s confirmation hearing to slam 70-year-old former Atty. Gen. Bill Barr, Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) put a revolting partisan act on full display. Former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) knows what it means that elections have consequences, now that he’s no longer majority leader. Now Durbin’s free during Garland’s confirmation hearing to take any partisan shot he wants to bash Barr as a partisan hack for Trump. But Democrats can’t point to one thing Barr did while attorney general to favor Trump, actually throwing the president under the bus after his loss to 78-year-old President Joe Biden Nov. 8. “The Justice Department became an arm of the White House, committed to advancing the interests of President Trump, his family and his political allies,” Durbin said, letting Garland see more partisan attacks against Barr.
If Garland really got the supercharged partisan atmosphere, he’d know that the partisan attacks will eventually be directed at him. Dubin called Garland’s confirmation “one of the most \critical” times in U.S. history, referring again to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, Democrats insisted was an “insurrection,” a kind of right wing coup d’etat against the U.S. government. Garland bought in completely to Democrats attack on former President Trump, trying but failing to convict him in the U.S. Senate Feb. 13. Instead, Senators voted to acquit Trump, under strict Constitutional rules to obtain 67 Senate votes, falling well short at 57. Democrats touted the seven Republicans as proof that Trump committed “incitement of insurrection,” the high crime and misdemeanor on which Trump was acquitted. No, as stated by lead impeachment manager Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), Democrats won conviction in the court of public opinion.
Durbin spoke openly about how Barr served as Trump personal attorney, a worn out Democrat talking point, something that doesn’t pass the smell test. Durbin couldn’t name one thing Barr did to show bias toward Trump. Because there wasn’t anyone. speaking up for Trump about the illegal five-year-long FBI counterintelligence investigation of Trump AKA Crossfire Hurricane, Democrats slammed Barr for opening up the U.S. Atty. John Durham (R-Conn.) Russian hoax probe. How does Barr protecting the president’s civil right prove he was biased toward the him? “There have been few moments in history where the role of Attorney Genera—and the occupant of the that post—have mattered more,” Durban said. Every Attorney General in U.S. history is forced to deal withy threats to the U.S. Constitution and American democracy, an ongoing saga.
Hearing Durban continue to rip Barr through the hearing, Garland must have wondered when the same public ire would be directed at him. “Judge Garland, should you be confirmed—and I have every confidence that you will be—you well over see a Justice Department in an existential moment. After four tumultuous years of intrigue, controversy, and brute political force, the future course of the Department is clearly in transition,” Durbin said. When Durbin talks of “tumultuous,” he’s trying to cover-up what the DOJ, FBI CIA and Justice Department did to Trump in four years. If there were upheaval in the Justice Department, it has less to do with Trump and more related with the conspiracy inside the DOJ, FBI, CIA and National Security Agency [NSA] to wiretap the Trump campaign to help Hillary get elected. Garland gave no assurance that he’d follow up with that investigation.
All the Barr-bashing at a Senate confirmation hearing had to make Garland a bit uncomfortable, knowing it could turn on him. But beyond that, Garland knows that the Obama administration and the nation’s premier law enforcement and intel agencies were used against Trump. Now the partisan table has turned, Democrats are lashing out against the Trump White House, fixated on former AG Barr. Durban can’t say one thing Barr did inappropriately yet sees fit to rip him at Garland’s confirmation hearing. Barr was an ethically-minded seasoned professional who got swept up in the Democrats and media demonization of Trump. Barr was demonized by Democrats and the press for purely political reasons. When Drubin talks of “four tumultuous years,” he’s talking not about Trump, he’s talking about the DOJ’s reckless abuse of Trump’s campaign and presidency.
Garland’s on verge of confirmation at a time when the DOJ, FBI, CIA and NSA all need to clean house after an organized conspiracy to persecute Trump for four years. Former AG Barr did nothing other than preserve the rule of law but never delivered for Trump on the Russian hoax. Looks like Durham’s investigation will get little public attention now that Trump’s out of office. Barr won plaudits from Democrats and the press when he said Dec 1, that he didn’t see significant evidence of election fraud. If Barr was Trump’s personal attorney, that was a strange thing to say. Barr got a bad wrap because Democrats and the media spread lies and falsehoods to anyone working for Trump. Contrary to the fake Democrat and media narrative, Barr performed the AG job with the highest level of integrity, calling balls-and-strikes like he saw them. Listening to Durbin’s rant shows toxic partisanship hasn’t stopped.
