Seizing six-blocks in Seattle’s Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone [CHAZ], Black Lives Matter [BLM] and Antifa received approval from 69-year-old Washington State Gov. Jay Inslee and 62-tear-old Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan. Both elected leaders have allowed Antifa and BLM to take over six-square blocks, including taking over Seattle Police East Precinct Station. Durkan ordered Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best to stand down, retreat after protesters overran the area Monday, June 8. Best insisted that it was not her decision to abandon the East Precinct Station but City Hall’s order. Durkan decided, in the wake of 46-year-old George Floyd’s May 25 chokehold death by 44-year-old Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin, to back down. Chauvin was charged with second-degree murder June 3 by 56-year-old Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, taking over from Hennepin County prosecutor Mike Freeman.
Ellison hoped he could quell nationwide riots, looting, arson and anarchy, deviating from otherwise peaceful protests over Floyd’s egregious murder caught, all eight-minutes-forty-six-seconds, on video for all to see. When the video went viral, the horror sunk in to the rest of the country, driving violent street protests. Ellison thought Freeman’s charges were too weak for one of the most egregious white-on-black police murders in recent memory. Protesters stormed Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, beating back police tear gas, rubber bullets and flash-bang grenades, eventually driving law enforcement out of the area. Protesters led by Antifa and BLM cordoned off the area, preventing the police from returning without a fight. Durkan made an executive decision to let angry protesters occupy six-blocks of Seattle streets, avoiding any further confrontation with demonstrators.
Seattle’s 55-year-old Police Chief Carmen Best has made it clear that she was not derelict in protecting Seattle’s rule of law, now flouted by Antifa and BLM. “Ultimately the city had other plans for the building and relented to public pressure,” Best said, referring to how the Capitol Hill East Precinct was taken over by protesters. Best wants the police station back but has no support from City Hall. “You should know, leaving the precinct was not my decision,” Best told Seattle officers. “You fought days to protect it. I asked you to stand on that line. Day in and day-out, to be pelted with projectiles, to be screamed at, threatened and in some cases hurt. Then have to change of course nearly two weeks in. It seems like an insult to you and out community,” Best said, putting distance between herself and City Hall. Best wanted Seattle residents to know it was not her decision to surrender East Precinct Station.
When police abandon the thin blue line, or the line between order and anarchy, it’s a colossal failure of community law enforcement. Today’s residents in Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone have no civil rights other than what’s granted by Antifa and BLM. Both groups believe it’s the peoples’ liberation rights to seize private property and redistribute it to people without ownership. Living in Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone are Seattle’s disenfranchised groups, including vagrants, wayward youth and the chronically homeless. Best admitted that with Antifa and BLM taking over the East Precinct Station Seattle police cannot respond to medical emergencies or crime, including robberies, aggravated assaults and rapes. Asked what residents are supposed to do without police, Antifa and BLM said they’re supposed to work out their problems. Such anarchy now prevails on Seattle streets.
Durkan doesn’t want residents to know the extent of the lawlessness in Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, including the absence of police response. “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone [CHAZ] were engaging in an act of patriotism,” clearly showing her loyalty to Antifa and BLM. Whatever mayhem takes place in the lawless area, Durkan considers it an “act of patriotism.” Best wanted the public to know she’s trying to restore order and police presence. “Our calls for service have more than tripled,” Best told reporters. “These are responses to emergency calls—rapes, robberies, and all sorts of violent acts that have been occurring in the area we’re not able to get to,” contradicting Durkan’s claims of “patriotism.” Durkan has exposed Seattle to massive liability for abandoning the civic duty of an operational police force within the City’s business and residential neighborhoods.
Gov. Jay Inslee and Mayor Jenny Durkan are derelict in their duties to protect the health, safety and welfare of Seattle residents. When the Seattle Police Chief gives the new crime data and the Mayor’s response in that it’s a “patriotic” act to seize the area, there’s something very wrong. Instead of placating criminals, Durkan should be working feverishly to reestablish control over Capitol Hill. Calling the situation “the closest I’ve seen to our country becoming a lawless state,” Police Union Chief Michael Solan was sickened by the governor and City Hall’s response. “Where is the safety of the reasonable community of the city of Seattle? To me, that is absolutely appalling, and I am embarrassed being a Seattle resident to even talk about this,” Solan told Fox News host Tucker Carlson. Letting Antifa and BLM seize Seattle’s streets sets a dangerous precedent for the rest of the country.
