LOS ANGLEES.–Calling for urgent peace talks in Ukraine, China’s 70-year-old Foreign Minister Wang Yi took the lead countering more U.S. and Ukraine warmongering. Wang sees only more death and destruction to escalate the conflict, something 46-year-old Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked for, insisting that he can use U.S., U.K. and NATO long-rage missiles to strike at military targets deep inside Russia. Zelensky already invaded Russia’s Kursk border region Aug. 6, sending some 10,000 troops into the region in hopes to diverting Russian resources away from Donbas where Russia continues to make slow but steady progress capturing more Ukrainian sovereign land. Ukraine claims that Russia holds some 20-25% of Ukraine’s sovereign territory. Zelensky rejects any peace plan that has Ukraine compromising on its sovereign territory.
Zelensky has pressed 81-year-old President Joe Biden and Vice President and 2024 Democrat nominee Kamala Harris to escalate the conflict to drive Russian forces out of Ukraine. Wang and Brazilian Foreign Minister Adviser Celso Amorim proposed a new peace plan that calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and peace talks. Zelensky rejected China and Brazil’s call for peace talks, asking Ukraine and Russian to suspend hostilities so peace talks can begin. “The top priority is to commit to no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of fighting and no provocation by any party and push for de-escalation of the situation for selfish gains,” Wang told the U.N. General Assembly. Wang watches the U.S. and Ukraine threaten to escalate the conflict that could result in WW III or nuclear war. China has asked Ukraine for nearly three years to go to the peace table to negotiate and end of the conflict.
Zelensky thinks that any peace plan that does not conform to his unrealistic 10-point plan that calls for prosecuting 71-year-old Russian President Vladimir Putin for war crimes at The Hague, withdrawal of all Russian troops from Ukraine and for the Kremlin to pay Ukraine unspecified war reparations is preposterous. Zelensky stood side-by-side with Kamala in Washington saying that she would agree to no plan that would ask Ukraine to surrender sovereign territory to Russia. So, if you follow the U.S. and Ukraine peace plan, Russia must leave Ukraine completely before Zelensky would consider any peace talks. Wang thinks the risk of escalation to the European Continent are so great, that everything must be done know to end the conflict, not drag it on until a major mishap takes place. Zelensky shows no interest in negotiation and compromise.
Zelensky thinks because he has more U.S. cash he can keep the war going into the indefinite future, ignoring the risks to Ukraine and the European Union. Wang wants the U.S. and Zelensky to deal with the war realistically, not pretend he can keep fighting the Kremlin without repercussions. “China is committed to playing a constructive role, engaging in shuttle mediation and promoting peace not throwing oil on the fire or exploiting the situation for selfish gains,” Wang said. Chinese President Xi Jinping blames Biden for pushing Putin into invading Ukraine by not discussing new security arrangements. Putin warned that if Biden refused to discuss new security arrangements in Ukraine, he would implement a “special military operation” to disarm Ukraine from receiving U.S. weapons. Xi said Biden ignored Putin’s warnings and invaded Ukraine Feb. 24, 2022.
Biden and Harris think that throwing more cash-and-arms at Ukraine is the right way to prosecute the war. But Biden and Harris have been put on notice by Putin that any use of U.S., U.K. or NATO long-range arms in Russia would be regarded as an act of war, prompting a military response from the Kremlin. Wang wants an immediate ceasefire because he knows how the Ukraine War could spiral out-of-control. Zelensky acts like he’s already in WW III, not realizing how he could draw the U.S. and NATO into his war with the Kremlin. Kamala took a veiled swipe at Trump for suggesting that he’d pressure Zelensky on compromising sovereign land to Putin. But it was Zelensky, no one else, that opted Feb. 24, 2022 to go to war against the Kremlin, rather than negotiate a deal. Putin would have accepted the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk and Russian sovereignty over Crimea.
Wang wants the U.S. and Ukraine to take China and Brazil’s peace plan seriously, believing the Ukraine war is at a dangerous inflection point. China sees the growing changes of a major escalation in the conflict dragging in the U.S. and NATO. Zelensky already invaded the Kursk border region, prompting Putin to say that he would not participate in any future peace talks slated for Ukraine in Lucerne, Switzerland. So, if Zelensky wants to end the war, he must remove his forces from the Russian Federation. Zelensky wanted to say the same thing to Putin, pullout out all Russian troops then he would talk. Wang sees only more problems by prolonging the war, especially if Biden gives Zelensky the green light to go ahead and start firing long-range missiles at Russian military targets. With Biden giving Zelensky more cash-and-arms, it’s difficult for him to talk peace.
