Since the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, the Biden administration has decided to label pro-Trump groups domestic terrorists but not left-wing extremists that rioted, looted, torched and seized American cities over the summer. Department of Homeland Security [DHS] now decides to label right-wing groups domestic terrorists, consistent with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) charging former President Donald Trump with “incitement of insurrection,” an attempted coup d’etat on the U.S. government. Coming up with the new terrorist label for the lawbreakers associated with storming the Capitol Jan. 6 and defacing government property puts the public on notice that only right wing groups threaten U.S. national security. When Black Lives Matter or Antifa decide to riot, the Biden administration considers it “peaceful protesting.” Today’s new “domestic terrorist” label is hypocrisy personified.

Pelosi made the strongest case to use her Article 1 authority to impeach Trump for a second time, claiming the Jan. 6 riots and mob scene was actually an attempted coup. When 10 House impeachment managers make their case to the U.S. Senate, they’ll say that Trump participated in an insurrection, expressly forbidden by the U.S. Constitution. Capitol rioters came armed with cell phones for selfies, not automatic weapons or other arms of revolution. “Information suggests that some ideologically-motivated violent extremists with objections to the exercise of governmental authority and the presidential transition, as well as other perceived grievances fueled by false narratives, could continue to mobilize to incite or commit violence,” said the Department of Homeland Security. Had the Capitol or D.C. police set a realistic cordon around the Capitol Jan. 6 nothing would have happened.

Homeland Security sad a mouthful, packed with disinformation and indefensible statements made for the purpose of selling the public on the remote possibility of more right wing violence. Calling Capitol rioters “ideologically-motivated violent extremists,” the only thing the mob did was break a few windows. Unlike Black Lives Matter or Antifa over the summer, there’s was no attempt to seize government property. When homeland security talks about “false narratives,” they’re referring to Trump telling his audience that the election was rigged. Whether Trump believes it or not, his legal team couldn’t prove it court. Democrats and the press have said anyone that promotes a false narrative about the election provokes insurrection. Yet for the first time in U.S. history, universal mail-in ballots were sent to every registered voter in the country, flooding the nation with millions of ballots.

Homeland security officials admit they have no intel that any right-wing attack is imminent around the country, yet they’d rather be safe-than-sorry. “DHS does not have any information to indicate specific, credible plot,” said the official statement. If there’s no credible evidence of a threat, then why has DHS informed the public about the remote possibility of a right-wing attack? Biden administration has now politicized DHS, warning the public about right-wing terrorists, not left-wing extremists that torched American cities over the summer. Unlike what happened at the Capitol Jan. 6, the riots, looting, arson and anarchy of left-wing groups doesn’t qualify as domestic terrorism because it’s supported by the Biden White House. Most right-wing extremist groups rarely come out of their redoubts to protest like they did Jan. 6. Labeling right-wing lawbreakers “domestic terrorists” tells the whole story.

When government agencies become politicized, they no longer have the clout in terms of informing the public. Calling out the Jan. 6 lawbreakers as “domestic terrorists” whips up anxiety into the public when it’s entirely unnecessary. Even DHS admits there’s no credible evidence of an imminent threat, so why alert the public about “domestic terrorism? ”However, violent riots have continued in recent days and we remain concerned that individuals frustrated with exercise of government authority and the presidential transition . .. cold continue to mobilize a broad range of ideologically motivated anchors to incite or commit violence,” said the DHS announcement. What happened Jan. 6 was a fluke occurrence based on a small fraction of Trump’s audience going ballistic, storming the Capitol and vandalizing government property, It was a one-off event, not likely to be repeated.

Exploiting the DHS to advance a political agenda in advance of Trump’s Feb. 8 impeachment trial is the cynical manipulation of the U.S. national security apparatus for the purpose of convicting Trump in the Senate of “incitement of insurrection.” Whatever happened Jan. 6, it was not a coup d’etat but a roil and mob scene of a small fraction of Trump’s Jan. 6 audience that took out their frustrations on the Capitol. If you listen to the media, Trump orchestrated the Capitol “insurrection” for the purpose of overthrowing the U.S government. Exploiting DHS for fake public service announcements degrades the department but, more importantly, destroys credibility of the federal government. Timing of the DHS move is a cynical manipulation of public relations in advance of Trump’s Senate impeachment trial, where Democrats claim he participated in a cout d’etat.
